Manchester City: Too Many Strikers, Who Will Leave?

Stefan GouyetJun 7, 2018

With Sergio Aguero completing his move to City yesterday, there are now seven main strikers at Eastlands.

Adebayor, Bellamy, Santa Cruz, Dzeko, Tevez and Balotelli, with Aguero, complete the City strike force. And that is not even including the Citizens' attacking midfielders and wingers, such as Adam Johnson and David Silva.

It looks like Roberto Mancini has a lot to do in the upcoming month as he tries to deal with these players.

Here's a look at Manchester City's attackers and how Mancini should deal with them:ย

Carlos Tevez

1 of 6

Out of all City's strikers, Carlos Tevez is probably the most likely to leave this summer. There have always been rumors about the Argentinian leaving Manchester for good and the gossip has been at an all time high this year.

When you add his countryman Aguero joining the club, it seems like time is up for Tevez. It would be a good idea for both the player and the club if a transfer is made before the EPL begins in two weeks.

Probability of Leaving: 7/10

Possible Destination: Corinthians, Inter Milan, Real Madridย ย

Emmanuel Adebayor

2 of 6

Adebayor had a good start to life at City after his transfer from Arsenal, but things soon went downhill for the Togo International.

With Roberto Mancini spending more and more money each year, Adebayor found himself very low on the pecking order and ended up being loaned out to Real Madrid in January 2011. It seems that he is done with Manchester and wants to leave, probably back to Madrid, after being excluded from City's pre-season tour and refusing to train with the other players.

There hasn't been too much recent news regarding Adebayor but that doesn't mean that he won't be leaving. We'll see how it goes but, like for Tevez, it would be wise for Manchester City to cash in on the Togolese.

Probability of Leaving: 8/10

Possible Destination: Real Madrid, Tottenhamย ย

Roque Santa Cruz

3 of 6

Roque Santa Cruz has been fairly unlucky since moving to Manchester City as he has been injured constantly. Still, the Paraguayan would probably be a fringe player even if he had never been injured.

There are simply too many strikers at City and it was smart for Santa Cruz to make a loan back to Blackburn Rovers in January. As we know, even the loan ended up being poor and he ended up making only six appearances.

Santa Cruz is rumored to be forcing a permanent deal to Blackburn. If this move can't be completed, Malaga are also linked to the 29-year-old.

Probability of Leaving: 7/10

Possible Destination: Blackburn Rovers, Malaga

Craig Bellamy

Most people have completely forgot about Craig Bellamy as he is now playing in the Championship league for Cardiff City. The 32-year-old is trying to make a permanent move to the Bluebirds but it isn't clear if Malky Mackay actually wants the Welsh international.

Sunderland and Celtic are also reported to be interested. But there's no doubt that Bellamy is now past his prime and he won't be getting any playing time in Manchester.ย

Probability of Leaving: 8/10

Possible Destination: Sunderland, Cardiff City, Celticย ย

Edin Dzeko

5 of 6

Edin Dzeko made his move to Manchester City six months ago from Wolfsburg for $44 million. Dzeko has been extremely poor since then and has managed to score only six goals.

People haven't really been keeping track of him as much as they normally would as Fernando Torres has done even worse for Chelsea. But, even though Dzeko hasn't been at his best yet, there aren't any rumors linking the Bosnian out of Eastlands.

Probability of Leaving: 1/10

Possible Destination: N/Aย ย

Mario Balotelli

6 of 6

I honestly thought that Balotelli had finally calmed down. He was beginning to show his worth and played very well at the end of last season. But it seems that he still does very unintelligent things.

As everyone knows, his latest controversial action was when he tried to score byย back-heelingย the ball against LA Galaxy. It completely failed and Roberto Mancini was furious with the Italian.

In the eyes of many people, Mario Balotelli is a bad player to have on your team with all the controversy he brings and should be sold by the Citizens. It doesn't look like that will be happening this summer though. Still, there are some rumors linking 20-year-old to a move out of Eastlands. It's extremely unlikely that he will be leaving, but Roma and AC Milan are said to be preparing bids.

We'll see what happens, but, once again, Mancini will probably give the Italian another chance. ย

Probability of Leaving: 4/10

Possible Destination: Roma, AC Milanย ย
