Manchester United: Top 10 Goals of the 1990s (Video)

Phil ConstableJun 7, 2018

The 90s were a golden era for Manchester United.ย

Sir Alex Ferguson constructed teams that won six Premier League titles in the decade, including the inaugural Premier League crown.

The decade culminated in the historic treble that may never be replicated in England and the many historic moments that went along with it.

With all of us now caught up in the present chase of trophies and players over the summer, let's reminisce over some of the most flamboyant finishes from what proved to be a memorable time for the club.

10. Mark Hughes

1 of 10

Just a pile-driver of a shot from Mark Hughesโ€”you feel sorry for the goalkeeper just watching this.

You can see it here at 3:03.

9. Eric Cantona

2 of 10

Cantona starts this goal with the most graceful chest control you'll ever see before unraveling a thunderbolt of a finish crashing off the bar and in.

This goal sums up Cantona as a player: aesthetically enchanting, yet potently productive.

You can see it at 3:37 here.

8. Andy Cole

3 of 10

This one's a cracking bicycle kick from the edge of the box.

The combination of athleticism, control and finishing ability is something to behold.ย

You can see it here at 4:05

7. Paul Scholes

4 of 10

Paul Scholes hits this ball so hard it doesn't swerve or dip an inch, talk about hitting the sweet spot.

Watch it go on a line straight into the top corner.ย

You can see it here at 1:27.

6. Andy Cole

5 of 10

Not the most spectacular goal but a truly clinical finish and very significant goal in helping United close out the first part theย of the 1999 extravaganza.

The way Cole brings the ball down instantly before lofting it up once more to lob Ian Walker is classic, great goal.

It's at the very start of this video.

5. Paul Scholes

6 of 10

Paul Scholes scored a few of these in his day, but they're still great to watch.

I've often heard professional footballers say the hardest ball to handle is one coming across your body and in the air.

Scholes seems to have a differing opinion.ย

4. David Beckham

7 of 10

This is just an exercise in technical supremacy.

With the goalkeeper hovering in his box, Beckham places the ball over his head and drops it in the middle of the net.

Great goal.

3. Eric Cantona

8 of 10

Boy, is that Eric Cantona good or what?

The Frenchman led Manchester United out as captain for the 1996 FA Cup finalโ€”he proved to be both a leader in nature as well as in name.

With just five minutes to go, Cantona dissects the splattering of defenders scattered between himself and the goal to win United the cup.

2. Eric Cantona

9 of 10

The move, the finish, the celebration: It's phenomenal.

A great finish is only amplified by the nonchalance of Cantona's reactionโ€”it's epic.ย

1. Ryan Giggs

10 of 10

Whenever I watch this, it gives me goosebumps.

It's the 1999 semifinal replay, Manchester United are chasing perfection and locked in an intense battle against their greatest rivals at the time.

With Roy Keane already sent off and Peter Schmeichel denying Dennis Bergkamp from the penalty spot not long before and Sir Alex Ferguson happy to settle for penalties, Ryan Giggs produces arguably the greatest goal in Manchester United history to send the most loved, most despised club in England to the FA Cup final.

And the rest is history.
