Manchester City-Twente; Udinese win in Moscow; Feyenoord trounced by CSKA

It was a blistering start at Eastands with Shaun Wright-Phillips striking after just two minutes, bursting through the middle and finding the net from inside the box. Twente equalised in controversial fashion, Eljero Elia appeared to kick Pablo Zabaleta in the head while winning possession, racing through and beating Joe Hart.

Lech Poznan 2 - Nancy 2 (UEFA Cup, November 6, 2008) Slawimir Peszko gave Lech Poznan the lead against Nancy with a superb goal, controlling expertly before firing home the opener after 4 minutes. The Frenchmen were not behind for long, Malonga equalised in the 10th minute with a shot from inside the box, only for Lech to retake the lead in bizarre circumstances. Stilic’s 35-yard free-kick was sent straight through to keeper Bracigliano, but the goalie inexplicably failed to stop the ball crossing the line for a freak goal. In the closing stages Nancy drew level, a slick set of passes eventually fed in Monsef Zerka who finished with aplomb.

Spartak Moscow 1 - Udinese 2 (UEFA Cup, November 6, 2008) Fabio Quagliarella struck after 12 minutes against Moscow, collecting a ball on his chest, spinning and producing a fine finish. Spartak levelled soon after as Rodriguez powered home a shot in the near post. (Both goals here.) The Italians retook the lead on the hour mark when Quagliarella converted a penalty. And despite having Pasquale sent off late on, Udinese hung on for the win.

Stuttgart 2 - Partizan Belgrade 0 (UEFA Cup, November 6, 2008) Stuttgart had to wait until the 76th minute to break the deadlock, a long ball fell into the path of Mario Gomez and the striker hit a beauty past the keeper. Gomez doubled the lead four minutes later, managing to play a one-two off a defender and striking a low drive into the bottom corner.

Feyenoord 1 - CSKA Moscow 3 (UEFA Cup, November 6, 2008) CSKA Moscow took the lead at Feyenoord with a goal from Berezutski, but the hosts drew level on the half hour as Giovanni van Bronckhorst was released in the box and the veteran produced a calm finish. But van Bronckhorst quickly turned into the villain with a horrible attempt at a headed backpass that allowed Vanger Love to steal in and score. The Dutch were then put to bed nine minutes from time, Vagner Love was allowed (too easily) to wriggle free and fire a weak shot to kill the game.

It was pinball in the Zilina penalty area with Luis Suarez the beneficiary giving Ajax the lead.

Marathon 2 - Deportivo Saprissa 0 (CONCACAF Champions League, November 5, 2008) Marvin Chaves and Milton Nunez scored for Marathon to end the Costa Rican’s chances of advancing to the quarter-finals.
