Manchester United Transfer News: Power Ranking United's New Signings so Far
In recent years Sir Alex Ferguson has been much more reserved in his summer spending.
Maybe this is doe to the iron fist the Glazers have placed over the club; maybe it's because Ferguson just hasn't seen the premier talent he demands when scouting the market.
With over £50 million already spent in the current summer window, here are the rankings of Ferguson's moves thus far.
3. Ashley Young
1 of 3Ashley Young is a nice pickup.
At around £15 million, Young is moderately priced and can provide pace and explosiveness on the wing similar to Nani.
He shouldn't make too much of an impact based on the team as it stands but could prove to be very useful over the upcoming few seasons.
2. Phil Jones
2 of 3Phil Jones is young, talented, and could complete a future all-English central defensive partnership with Chris Smalling.
Under the tenure of Ferguson and the guidance of the likes of Vidic and Ferdinand, Jones could be great a few years down the line.
1. David De Gea
3 of 3David De Gea is a great signing, provided that he lives up to his potential.
That sounds quite obvious, but United can't afford to go through the same experimental transition they did after the departure of Peter Schmeichel, taking until Edwin Van Der Sar—the very man De Gea is replacing—to find a competent replacement.
With the upcoming Premier League season on paper looking as close as ever, United can't afford to suffer the same consequences as Arsenal and Tottenham, who've been held back in part by lacklustre goalkeeping.
