Hey Bleacher Report: Stop Using Age As An Argument!

Isaac LuberNov 3, 2008

Okay, first off, let's get this out of the way.  Yes.  I, Isaac Luber, am 15 years old.  Now, what is wrong with that?  Nothing?  Some fans beg to differ.

Michael, commenting on my article "NEWS FLASH: THE BCS IS TOTAL BS!!!".

"Nobody takes you seriously because you are 15."

Jeff, commenting on my article "Isaac Luber's Unofficial BCS Rankings: Week Nine".

"He's just 15...he'll grow out of it, Kent. When we were 15, I'm sure we thought 'our team' was the best no matter what logical evidence was put in front of us. They were 'our team'—of course they were the best!"

Thomas, commenting on my article "NEWS FLASH: THE BCS IS TOTAL BS!!!".

"don't you have some homework to do or something? thomas why are you not in school?"

Calvin, commenting on my article "Ok...Lets Face It, The AP Poll Sucks and Is Completely Biased".

"Are you sure you're 15 years old and not 5 years old? Because your reasoning resembles that of a 5 year old."

"Sorry, young turd—Texas Tech has defeated more good teams than Penn State.".

There are more of these types of comments, I am just unable to find them.  Some of them, like Calvin's, are disrespectful.  Others, like Michael's, are just lame arguments used when people know that they can't win so they use your age to make you seem like you don't know anything.

Even if it's more of a joking and fun comment, like Jeff's, it still is not right to put age as a factor on this site.  It is unfair to young people who know a lot about sports to be demoralized by other people who say they know nothing because they are young.

Kudos to writers like BabyTate and Gray Ghost, who appreciate the young community.  I know there are other writers like this, but these two are the ones who are the most outspoken to me when it comes to the acceptance of young writers.

At first, I let this get to me, and I became angry that people used age as an argument.  Now I realize that is a lowly attempt to bring down your credibility when a person does not agree with you.

Please everyone, can we just leave age out of this?  Once again, it is not fair to all the young writers out here, like Anthony Elias, Micah Green, myself, and others.  (I name them because those are the two that I am fans of, and they are also my fans).

The young writers are very talented on this site, as Gray Ghost pointed out in his article about young writers.  I feel disrespected when people discredit my arguments and articles because of my age, and although I no longer let it get to me, it is still not right.

Again, Bleacher Report...can we please leave age out when arguing about sports?  Thank you.
