Scolari Concerned About Lack Of Funds?

TheChelseaBlog.orgNov 3, 2008

With everyone obsessed with the ‘credit crunch’, I guess it was inevitable it would eventually reach the footballing world and recent reports have suggested Luiz Felipe Scolari has been ‘told’ by Roman Abramovich he’ll have to sell in order to buy in January.

But is the Brazilian as panicked by this as the media would like him to be? Unfortunately for the press it doesn’t sound like it because the Chelsea boss simply says “It’s not just Chelsea who won’t spend money in January, I think all the clubs in the world won’t spend as much as they have before. The situation in the world is different to a year or even six months ago.  Players need to be thinking about this and clubs need to think about it too. I’m happy that Chelsea are thinking differently to before because this is the right way.”

And despite recent stories trying their hardest to dig out some kind of ‘admission’ that Scolari bears a grudge over the club’s failure to sign Robinho, Scolari insists there’s been no bombshells dropped on him as far as Chelsea’s new transfer policy is concerned. Scolari says “They said when I arrived here that they follow this idea. In that time they buy one player only, Deco. This idea is a correct idea. We need to change the idea that I have money to spend money for the sake of it.”

He must be a total breath of fresh air as far as Abramovich’s bank manager is concerned, but then maybe Scolari’s just optimistic that at some time in the future, Chelsea will have a fully fit squad anyway?
