Arsenal Transfer Rumours: Uncertainty Remains at the Club

Nate KahnJul 17, 2011

Just like every other major club in Europe, the transfer rumors surrounding Arsenal FC have been persistent all summer. The Gunners are one of the most entertaining sides to watch in the game, but they have failed to lift a trophy since their FA Cup triumph in 2005.

The effect of Arsenalโ€™s trophy drought has been felt on the club, as left back Gael Clichy has left the club due to the fact that he no longer believed that they had the ability to win trophies. The management at Arsenal is desperately trying to end this drought by bringing in new talent. However, there are rumors still swirling that some of their other star players at the club may be on their way out.

Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas have both been linked to other clubs since the season ended. However, Arsenal have repeatedly denied that the two will be sold. Both Manchester clubs are interested in obtaining the services of Nasri, and Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini went as far as saying that he was eager to sign him โ€œby the end of the month.โ€

This sparked anger by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who said that it violated the rules of football to speak about buying players from other clubs that are under contract.

Fabregas has been hotly pursued by FC Barcelona this offseason. Barcelona legend Johan Cruyff has urged the club to buy the sensational Spanish midfielder, and Xavi has stated that he believes Fabregas is โ€œsufferingโ€ at Arsenal.

That claim also irritated Wenger, who stated that the comments were disrespectful. Wenger has repeatedly denied that both Fabregas and Nasri will be sold.

Not all of the rumors surrounding Arsenal involve players leaving the club, however. Reports have stated that Arsenal have put in a bid for Belgian wunderkind Romelu Lukaku.

The Gunners have also been able to acquire the services of another talented young striker, Joel Campbell. Campbell is only 19 years old, and he impressed the Arsenal scouts with his displays in the Copa America and his with his club, Deportivo Saprissa.
