Chelsea Transfer Rumors: Three Strikers Who Chelsea Should Buy
Just as it seemed that Chelsea were going to complete the signing of Porto striker Radamel Falcao, the Colombian extended his contract with the Portuguese giants. This is a huge blow for the Blues and for new coach Andre Villas-Boas. But Chelsea fans shouldn't be too disappointed by this. There are a bunch of superb strikers out there who can come to Stamford Bridge. But there are only a select few that would fit perfectly into the Chelsea system.
Here are three strikers who Chelsea should buy (they should only purchase one of the three):
Romelo Lukaku
1 of 4Age: 18
Nationality: Belgian
Current Team: Anderlecht
You knew Lukaku would be in this list. The Belgian man has been linked to Stamford Bridge for such a long time. I wouldn't really call it a big transfer saga as most of the discussions between Chelsea and Anderlecht are awfully quiet (and the rumors don't seem to be annoying people unlike the Fabregas and Neymar transfer gossip). Lukaku has so much potential and would be a perfect addition for the Blues. He has been named the new Didier Drogba, who as we know has been superb on Chelsea.
Probability of Transfer: 7/10
Sergio Aguero
2 of 4Age: 23
Nationality: Argentinian
Current Team: Atletico Madrid
Sergio Aguero has always been a world class player but has never played on a world class team. Atletico Madrid have always been second to city-rivals Real Madrid and very rarely participate in the Champions League (though they did win the Europa League in 2009). But enough is enough for El Kun and he wants to quit. It will take money for Atletico to let him leave and that's why Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Manchester City all want him. It's not clear which team has the upper hand at the moment, but there's no doubt that Chelsea would be a great destination for the Argentinian. Aguero would be reuniting with Fernando Torres, after the pair enjoyed great success in Madrid before Torres left for Liverpool.
Probability of Transfer: 5/10
David Villa
3 of 4Age: 29
Nationality: Spanish
Current Team: F.C. Barcelona
Why on earth would David Villa want to leave Barcelona? Well it may not be his choice. At least at the start of the transfer season (back in June), rumors had David Villa leaving Barca in order to fund and make way for a new striker (and to fund other deals too). The Blaugrana were strongly linked to Giuseppe Rossi and Neymar at that time. But it seems like those possible deals are off. Still, I feel that David Villa could still be on his way out of the Camp Nou for two reasons. Firstly, Barcelona are in a lot of debt and will want to pay it off even if they don't secure the signing of a forward. Secondly, Barcelona may well buy a striker meaning that Villa's transfer rumors aren't done at all. Despite all this, the David Villa to Chelsea rumor has very little chance of happening and would be the most expensive of the three on this list.
Probability of Transfer: 3/10
Conclusion
4 of 4It's hard to tell who Chelsea is going to buy but it's pretty clear the Blues should bring a new striker to Stamford Bridge.
Out of the three players mentioned on this list, Romelo Lukaku would be the cheapest and is the most likely forward to join the Blues this summer. In addition to buying a striker, it is important that Chelsea bring in a creative midfielder who can bring out the best of Torres and the other attacking players in the line-up.
