Abby Wambach, Women's World Cup: Watch American Wonder Woman Rescue US Again

Somebody should have told the French international women's team that Abby Wambach fancies her head to score goals.

With the US and France tied at one, the Americans were awarded only their fourth corner kick of the day—France had nine at the time—and Wonder Woman Wambach went to work.

With two opportunities already gone astray, Wambach was not to be denied a third time.

Lauren Cheney, the game's first scorer, sent in a brilliant service off a corner kick in the 79th minute and found Wambach's now famous head waiting once more on the back post.

Off a sensational late run that allowed Wambach to lose her mark, snake around the keeper's arms and find the ball, America's savior slammed home what would be the game winner for the second consecutive match.

Although the US scored early once again, it was France that dominated the majority of the match, riddling Hope Solo with shots and finally breaking though for a goal in the 55th minute.

But no lead is safe—not against Wambach and the rest of the US squad that doesn't seem to care if they hold the ball for 75 minutes or 15 minutes—these girls score goals when it matters most.

Alex Morgan, a second-half substitute, added a third goal a mere three minutes later to assure the US a place in the 2011 Women's World Cup Final on Sunday, but it was Wambach to the rescue once again.

The 31-year-old American superstar is third all-time in goals scored by a US woman, trailing only Kristine Lilly and Mia Hamm.

The Americans are set for their first final since the classic 1999 World Cup shootout with China.

If these last two matches are any indication, we could be in for another instant classic.
