Football Transfers: 5 Players Who May Leave Their Clubs and Where They May Go

Stefan GouyetJun 7, 2018

The summer transfer window is well on its way now. Some clubs have made a bunch of purchases while others have been more reserved.

The transfer season is mainly interesting because of all the gossip and rumors that are started. While it's hard to know whether a transfer will take place, there are players who have publicly stated their desire to leave to another team. These are sometimes the more interesting and believable transfer sagas.

Here's a list of five players who want to leave their club and where they might go:

Carlos Tevez

1 of 5

Club: Manchester City

Age: 27

Position: Forward

You may hate him or you may love him, but he will most likely end up disappointing you.

Carlos Tevez has been on a bunch of clubs despite still being at a young age. It seems that he can never find a true home for himself. Tevez has been living in Manchester for the last four or so years and he has finally had enough. He wants to leave the city and the country entirely.

There have been some rumors of him staying with a big club, with both Real Madrid and Chelsea reported interested. But it seems now that Tevez may be heading back to South America to play for Brazilian side Corinthians. Reports say the deal would cost around $55 million. Hopefully, Tevez can finally find consistent form and a comfortable environment.

Potential Destination: Corinthians

Cesc Fabregas

2 of 5

Club: Arsenal

Age: 24

Position: Center Midfield

The Cesc Fabregas transfer saga has been mouth-watering for both Arsenal and Barcelona fans. For the rest of the world, though, it has been unbelievably irritating and repetitive. It always seems like one team, either Arsenal or Barcelona, has the higher ground in the deal.

As of now, it seems that Fabregas may be at the Emirates for yet another year as manager Arsene Wenger stated that the Spaniard would be staying. Barcelona is certainly going to be Fabregas' destination if he does leave Arsenal, but that hasn't stopped rumors that Real Madrid and Manchester City want the man.

There have been many subtle clues that Fabregas has issued over the years that show his desire to move back to his boyhood club. In addition, Spanish teammates were shown forcing Fabregas to wear a Barcelona jersey during last year's World Cup celebrations. This gesture was seen to many as the final step in making Cesc a Barcelona player, but it was not to be. We'll see if the transfer is finally made this year.

Potential Destination: Barcelona

Samir Nasri

3 of 5

Club: Arsenal

Age: 24

Position: Center Midfield/Winger

One can understand why Arsenal fans are anxious about the transfer window.

Gael Clichy has already left the Gunners for Manchester City and it seems that Samir Nasri could be on his way to Manchester as well. How would Arsenal deal with losing Nasri and Fabregas?

While Fabregas will only go to Barcelona, Nasri's potential destination is up for grabs. Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea and AC Milan are all reported interested, but the Manchester clubs are the most likely suitors. Like for Fabregas' proposed deal to Barcelona, Nasri may end up staying at Arsenal despite stating that he wishes to move elsewhere in search of trophies.

Potential Destinations: Manchester United, Manchester City

Luka Modric

4 of 5

Club: Tottenham

Age: 25

Position: Center Midfield

Luka Modric has been superb for Spurs since his transfer in 2008. He's not much of a scorer despite playing attacking midfield a lot, but he is still one of the best out there. And now, after just three seasons in North London, Modric is forcing a move.

His desire is to stay in London and play for Chelsea. Despite this, the potential deal is nowhere near completion. Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp doesn't want to let his star playmaker leave the club and Chelsea don't wish to pay an exorbitant amount of money. We'll see how this turns out but, at the moment, the Tottenham staff (mainly Redknapp) is not happy with the situation.

Potential Destination: Chelsea

Emmanuel Adebayor

5 of 5

Club: Manchester City

Age: 27

Position: Forward

Emmanuel Adebayor's desire to leave Manchester City is somewhat strange. The other four players on my list have transfer sagas that have been widely publicized. But Adebayor's, which is the craziest situation, doesn't seem to be on the news as much as it should.

There is no point in trying to keep the Togolese man in Manchester. First, he is not included on City's USA tour. Then he is annoyed by the club and says that he will train on his own, not with the team's reserves and youth team. I am not completely sure where Adebayor will end up but Real Madrid seem to want him on a permanent deal.

Potential Destinations: (Almost anywhere), Real Madrid
