This Week’s Top 25 and the Latest Pops and Drops

Paul PeszkoNov 1, 2008

POPS and DROPS:

Last week, I had Penn State at No. 2 and not Alabama, which was at No. 4 and Florida ahead of them at No. 3.

So, with the Texas loss, Penn State pops up to the top of the list by default. Florida with a convincing win over Georgia is No. 2. Alabama is No. 3.

And Texas Tech, which I had at No. 5, not No. 8 like the rest of the country, winds up at No. 4. USC moves back into the No. 5 spot with Oklahoma behind them at Np. 6.

Texas drops to No. 7.  That's the problem with losing late.  I had to drop them behind Oklahoma even though they beat the Sooners a few weeks ago.  I couldn't leave the Sooners at #7 after what they did to Nebraska.

Oklahoma State No. 8 and Boise State No. 9 jump No. 10 Utah, which struggled with New Mexico.  Utah can redeem itself this Thursday with a big win over undefeated TCU.

Ohio State remains at No. 11. TCU No. 12, Florida State No. 13 and BYU No. 14, each moved up a notch while Georgia dropped to No. 15 from No. 8.

Ball State, which had a bye, moved up to No. 14 jumping BYU and Missouri with their poor showings against weak teams. Meanwhile, Minnesota dropped out of the top 25 with its second loss while Tulsa dropped from No. 19 to No. 24 with its first loss.

LSU popped to No. 17 from No. 20 while No. 19 South Florida suffered its third loss and dropped from the Top 25.

West Virginia moved up to No. 18 with a win over UConn. UConn and Oregon, which lost to Cal, dropped off the charts.

Cincinnati popped up to No. 19 beating South Florida. Georgia Tech moved back on the charts at No. 20 with a close win over Florida State which fell from No. 14 to No. 21.

Unranked California moved up to No. 22 with a decisive win over Oregon, the former No. 23 team. Idle North Carolina moved up to No. 23 from No. 25. Oregon State with a narrow win over Arizona State moved into the No. 25 spot to complete my Top 25.
