Throughout history, Real Madrid has been successful in signing some of the greatest players in the world. Let's take a look back in history and look at the five best transfer signings in club history. 

Cristiano Ronaldo

When Real Madrid signed Cristiano Ronaldo, they made history. 

Cristiano's transfer fee was the highest of all time at $132 million dollars. Since joining Real Madrid in 2009, Ronaldo has played in 63 league matches scoring a whopping 66 goals. His 40 goals this season were well documented and he's easily the greatest player in the game today. 

In fact, when he arrived 80,000 fans came to greet him which topped the 75,000 fans who greeted Diego Maradona when he arrived in Italy.

Zinedine Zidane

Years before his infamous headbutt in the World Cup Final, Zinedine Zidane was acquired by Real Madrid for a transfer fee of €75 million.

Back then, this was the record.

Zidane's shining moment came in the 2002 UEFA Champions League Final where he scored the game-winning goal to help secure the title for Madrid.

Although he was at the twilight of his career in Madrid, he still scored 37 goals in 155 matches during his time there. 

David Beckham

Not only was Real Madrid excited to bring in David Beckham when they did for a transfer fee of 35 million euros. Beckham, inspired by Michael Jordan, changed his number to 23 and he helped Real Madrid dominate the Spanish La Liga in 2006-07 winning the title that year. 

However, it was Beckham's off the field lifestyle that brought in even more glamour to Real Madrid. Being married to Posh Spice and being the crush of every sixth grade girl in the world is what puts Beckham on this list. 

Luis Figo

Luis Figo's controversial transfer from Barcelona to Real Madrid caused a huge stir in the whole world. This was like Johnny Damon signing with the Yankees after playing with the Red Sox except it was exponentially more significant.

Figo lead Real Madrid to two La Liga titles and helped them win the Champions League in 2001-02. His arrival was also the beginning of Florentino Perez's "Galactico" teams. 

Ronaldo

Ronaldo's transfer fee was a whopping 39 million euros. The legendary Brazilian striker scored 83 goals in 127 appearances during his time at Real Madrid. His jersey also became a best seller.

With Ronaldo, Real Madrid won two La Liga championships.
