Manchester City Transfers: City Set to Finalize Deal for Clichy and Nasri?

City has been linked to almost every major talent so far this transfer window, even "unavailable" types such as Cristiano Ronaldo, but nothing major has landed for the Premiership's No. 3 team.

They offered an exorbitant amount for Ronaldo, who said he was flattered by the interest, but he still has plans for his career at the Bernabeu.

This has caused little pause for the Citizens though, and it looks like they could be landing the blockbuster deal of the summer this week.

Manchester City are pressing ahead with a £27million double bid for Arsenal pair Gael Clichy and Samir Nasri. City set to seal a £7m deal for Clichy and will offer the Gunners the kind of deal that will be difficult to refuse if Nasri, as expected, fails to agree new terms at the Emirates.

This would be a major blow for the Gunners and a huge boost for City; the two teams finished third and fourth in the league last campaign.

Gael Clichy, a 25-year-old French left-back, has been expected to leave the Emirates all summer long. Liverpool made an early offer, but manager Arsene Wenger was reluctant to sell to a Premiership rival.

That seems to be unavoidable at this point as Clichy went to City for a medical today and could see his current teammate and countryman, Samir Nasri, join him as well.

Nasri, a 24-year-old playmaking winger, has become discouraged with Arsenal's lack of silverware and much like his captain, Cesc Fabregas, is looking for an opportunity to compete immediately for championships.

Manchester United was expected to be the front-runner if Nasri really "quit" on the Gunners, but according to this report, it seems that their rivals at City have stepped into the lead.

We should expect to see the Clichy deal go through as the £7 million looks to be the best deal Wenger can get from a player who could walk at the end of the campaign for free, and Nasri's pushing the same card now as well.

If the rumors are true, and Nasri forces his way out, getting a deal done quickly with the money City is willing to throw would be their best option, especially if Arsenal want to keep Nasri away from Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.

Should City truly pull this off, it will be the steal of the summer and will help them immensely as they try and track down Chelsea and United at the top of the league.
