NBA Trade Rumors: Why L.A. Lakers Shouldn't Focus on Trades

NBA Trade Rumors Continue, But L.A. Lakers Shouldn't Make a Move

The Los Angeles Lakers had a disappointing postseason. Many expected them to win the NBA championship for the third year in a row. After the Dallas Maverick swept them, everyone shouted for the Lakers to dismantle the team.

It was all a bit premature, because realistically, this team was very capable of winning the title. They let problems within the locker room affect their play on the court, which is silly, because these veterans should know better.

Several rumors began circulating that the Lakers were going to trade Andrew Bynum, Pau Gasol and/or Lamar Odom.

That is absolutely absurd, because this team does not need to make any drastic moves at the moment.

The Lakers need to focus on fixing their personal issues. They need to put the past behind them and concentrate on the future. They know they have the skills to compete for another title.

Yes, they have a new coach in Mike Brown, which is going to change things. However, with seasoned players on the roster, the Lakers are still a team to fear.

There is no need to trade anyone on the roster. Everyone claimed that only Kobe Bryant was the safe one. It's funny how people live in just the moment and forget the entire season.

The Lakers were dominating for a portion of the season. Granted, they also had one of the worst losing streaks in franchise history, but every teams faces their ups and downs. This team needs to remain in tact and set their sights on another title.

The only deal that they should even consider making is if the Orlando Magic call them up and offer Dwight Howard. You do not pass up a chance to get the best center in the NBA because Howard would instantly upgrade the Lakers if he were to be traded.

However, the Magic aren't going to trade Howard, which means the Lakers need to forget about all the speculation and rumors surrounding him.

If for some reason the Lakers are struggling big time next season and it's clear nobody is happy, that's when you focus on trades. If these grown men are unable to fix their problems amongst one another this offseason and they continue to play poor basketball, then, of course, you listen to trade offers.

However, that is well into the future. Plus, who knows if we will even have a season next year. Trades are something this team doesn't need to worry about right now.

Now, free agency is a whole different story. The Lakers need to go after a point guard to help run this team. Aaron Brooks, TJ Ford and Rodney Stuckey are all up for grabs this offseason.

However, I think the Lakers should go after Mario Chalmers if the Miami Heat can't afford to re-sign him.
