5 Essential Things the Washington Wizards Need Before the Season Starts
The Washington Wizards did a great job on draft night. Shelvin Mack, Jan Vesely and Chris Singleton will all have immediate impacts from day one. They all fill some of the team's needs and bring great character and work ethic to a young, rebuilding team.
Still, the Washington Wizards have a lot of work to do the rest of this offseason.
Bring Back the Fro
1 of 5If you take Nick Young out of this roster, the Wizards will have a nightmare putting the ball on the basket. Signing Nick Young is a "must" for the Wizards' scoring problems.
Nick Young is a legitimate top scorer in this league. He can flat out shoot the ball from anywhere to 35 feet away from the basket. He is still not a proven ball handler, but his off-the-ball game and scoring mentality is good for about 20 points a game.
Keep Working
2 of 5The Wizards have a lot of potential All-Stars across their rotation, but their young talent is a bit rough around the edges.
John Wall needs to cut down his turnovers and develop a consistent jumper.
JaVale Mcgee needs to bulk up more this offseason to go with his energy and his superb athleticism. He also needs patience and to learn the game because right now, he is playing the game at full speed trying to dunk and block everything. He needs to slow down and execute the right play every time, which should also cut down his foul trouble.
Jordan Crawford, like Nick Young, is a pure scorer, but Jordan displayed a hunger on the defensive end that is missing in Nick Young's game. Crawford needs to keep up that defensive ability, and it should get him a ton of minutes.
The rest of the young players in the roster need to keep getting stronger and keep learning the game.
Trade Andray Blatche
3 of 5Andray Blatche has all the potential in the world to become a star in his position in this league, but he is very nonchalant on the court and is problematic off the court.
The Wizards Franchise has been struck in the heart with their off the court problems in the past few years.
Andray Blatche is a worm in a fresh apple.
What I'm trying to say is that the team is full of young players ready to play at a high energy night in and night out, but one player that won't play at that level is enough to destroy your whole game plan, and that is exactly what Blatche did last season.
The ball stopped moving around the court once he held it, and it really hurt the team, especially playing away from home.
Defense
4 of 5For the first time in a million years, the Wizards have potential to do big things on the defensive end.
They have size, speed and athleticism to work with. All they are missing is for their coaching staff to scream at them to commit to that end of the floor.
Basketball Is a Brotherhood
5 of 5The Oklahoma City Thunder are a model for rebuilding on the fly. In part of that success is that the team has a great chemistry, and all their young players have grown together.
The Wizards need to do the same thing, and be surrounded by good personalities in the locker room. It helps to build a healthy situation for players to grow and mature together.
The results of that friendship should then be translated to the court: Play unselfishly and always make the right plays whether it is scoring the ball or being a facilitator for your teammate.
Basketball is a team sport, and individuality will lead to failure.
