NBA Trade Rumors: Chris Paul and 5 Players Looking for a Title

Daniel BrommerJun 28, 2011

The NBA draft is over and there weren't as many surprises as expected, especially with trades. George Hill was traded by the Spurs, Raymond Felton was traded by the Nuggets, but there was no Steve Nash trade or Kevin Love trade that was originally speculated.

We all know that the Lakers are still trying to ship Lamar Odom out for someone younger and someone that will contribute to another NBA title run.

Minnesota is trying to ship one of its forwards out for a big man.

Then there is Chris Paul, whom NBA critics have said will be traded sometime this year to a contender.

Dwight Howard might be on the trading block, who knows?

Here are some rumors and the players involved.

6.Monta Ellis to the Lakers

1 of 6

The Monta Ellis trade rumors have been swirling for some time now. Does he really want out of there? Or are the Warriors trying to get some players out of him?

One of the rumors circulating is with the Lakers. There of course isn't a proposed trade set right now, but a trade involving Andrew Bynum, Ron Artest and Steve Blake for the likes of Monta Ellis, David Lee and a future pick is one of the rumors right now.

The Warriors need a big man in the center and defensive help as well. They would get that in Bynum and Artest and they would get a useful guard in Blake.

The Lakers would absolutely come out winning if this trade were to go down. Ellis is one of the best scorers in the league and Lee is no slouch either. A change of scenery would do wonders for both of these men and they would be on a winning team.

5. Andre Igoudala

2 of 6

Andre Igoudala has been featured in a lot of trade rumors as of late, specifically a trade to the Lakers for Lamar Odom, but that doesn't seem imminent right now.

Still, the 76ers could be looking to move him. There is the developing rumor of swapping Igoudala with Chris Kaman from the Clippers with some additional picks that could also go down.

Igoudala would be a scary addition to the young Clippers. Combining his dunking ability with Blake Griffin's would be quite a show to watch.

Then again, would they be a contender? I believe they would be.

4. Kevin Love or Derrick Williams

3 of 6

The Minnesota Timberwolves are an extremely young team with some high potential players. Kevin Love obviously showed why he's one of the best young players in the game last season.

They drafted Derrick Williams out of Arizona with the No. 2 pick overall in last week's draft, and in doing so, they virtually got the same kind of player.

The T-Wolves need a center and they need guards. The Lakers were reported as trying to move Andrew Bynum and Lamar Odom to the T'Wolves in exchange for Love and another player, or possibly just picks.

The move would help both teams, especially the T-Wolves because they get two 7-footers who have championship experience.

Love would end up on a title contending team.

3. Richard Hamilton or Ben Gordon

4 of 6

The Detroit Pistons drafted Brandon Knight out of Kentucky. This move alone is worthy of speculation that they are done with the Ben Gordon experiment, but he is still owed a lot of money so it might be hard for the Pistons to make a deal.

Then there is the aging Richard Hamilton, who might be shipped out as well. There are no likely scenarios right now or any teams that have come right out to express interest, but the Pistons will look to get someone who can score in the post.

Don't be surprised to see Hamilton or Gordon traded, and for Gordon, that would hopefully mean landing in a spot where he can contend for a title.

2. Dwight Howard

5 of 6

There will be rumors flying every which way all season long for the services of Dwight Howard, and quite honestly, wherever he ends up will automatically be a contender.

The Lakers are probably first in line since they have big men to deal. A Lamar Odom and Andrew Bynum trade seems most likely, but there will have to be some picks included as well.

A deal with the Chicago Bulls sending Joakim Noah, Carlos Boozer and Luol Deng to the Magic for Howard could take place.

Then there is the deal with the Celtics for Rajon Rando and either a bunch of picks or a bunch of cash.

These are all unlikely and likely scenario's, but how about this one: why not trade him to the Heat for Mario Chalmers, Chris Bosh and Mike Miller? Can you imagine how dominant the Heat would be?

1. Chris Paul

6 of 6

There are so many teams involved in trade rumors with Chris Paul. Let's start out with the Orlando Magic. The Magic would automatically have to get rid of Jameer Nelson and then probably another player or two. The Magic would then automatically be contender with the combination of Paul and Dwight Howard.

Then there's the Knicks. Do they trade Chauncey Billups or Toney Douglas, or both? Paul alongside Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire is just scary to think about.

The Lakers can send Lamar Odom and Andrew Bynum to the Hornets for Paul, surprise-surprise, those two are involved in almost every trade scenario.

Then there's the Bobcats. Paul has expressed interest in playing there, but who do the Bobcats send? Newly-drafted point guard Kemba Walker? D.J. Augustin? That trade doesn't seem as likely as the others.

Wherever Paul lands, that team will be a contender. Paul is the best point guard in the game and will add a new dynamic to any team he lands on.
