College Football 2011 Rankings: Alshon Jeffery and the Top 5 Receivers
The 2011 college football season will be filled with what looks to be one of the most talented groups of receivers in recent memory, so it's time to pick through the talent to see where Alshon Jeffery and the top five receivers in the country rank.
We could easily see five receivers taken in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft, showing just how good the receiving talent will be this year in college football.
5. Michael Floyd
1 of 5Team: Notre Dame Fighting Irish
2010 Stats: 79 receptions, 1025 yards, 12 touchdowns
Michael Floyd makes this list despite currently being suspended for a DUI arrest that occurred in the spring.
I don't see Brian Kelly not allowing the star wideout to suit up come September; he's too vital to the success of the Fighting Irish offense.
Floyd (if reinstated) will be the best player at Notre Dame, and will be the focal point of the Irish offense.
4. Jeff Fuller
2 of 5Team: Texas A&M Aggies
2010-2011 Stats: 72 receptions, 1066 yards receiving, 12 touchdowns
Jeff Fuller had a great junior campaign at Texas A&M, which should set up nicely for Fuller to have an even better senior year.
He may not get as much exposure as other players on this list, but he deserves to.
3. Ryan Broyles
3 of 5Team: Oklahoma Sooners
2010-2011 Stats: 131 Receptions, 1,622 yards, 14 touchdowns
Sure Broyles benefits from Oklahoma's offensive system, but when you watch him play, you quickly realize that the system benefits from Broyles being in it. Broyles is as good as any player on this list at gaining yards after he catches the ball.
2011 will be a special year for the senior receiver from Norman, Oklahoma.
2. Alshon Jeffery
4 of 5Team: South Carolina Gamecocks
2010-2011 Stats: 88 receptions, 1,517 yards, nine touchdowns
Alshon Jeffery is your prototypical big play receiver. At 6'4'' and 233 pounds, there are not many balls that Jeffery cannot go up and get, and he has speed (4.45 seconds in the 40-yard dash) to match the size.
The South Carolina Gamecocks will have an exiting offense in 2011 with Jeffery and standout running back Marcus Lattimore.
1. Justin Blackmon
5 of 5Team: Oklahoma State Cowboys
2010-2011 Stats: 111 receptions, 1,782 yards, 20 touchdowns
What can't Justin Blackmon do?
The numbers Blackmon put up during his sophomore year were good enough for him to be named the nation's best receiver, beating out guys like A.J. Green and Julio Jones.
A 2,000-yard season seems possible for Blackmon in 2011, and with him being an elite red-zone target, his touchdown numbers should only get better.
