Real Madrid: Things to Expect from Jose Mourinho's Team Next Season
With the season's ending comes transfers and ideas for coaches who want to improve on the previous seasons results. Although in normal situations, Jose Mourinho is planning the defense of his title, this offseason he will be looking to get his first La Liga title as head coach of Real Madrid in his second season.
After coming up short to Barcelona this year in the domestic league of Spain. He was fortunate enough to come away with the Copa del Rey at the hands of his rivals, but to his demise saw Barcelona lift the Champions League which he has done on two separate occasions.
This year Jose Mourinho looks to achieve a treble which he has done with FC Porto and Inter de Milan. Here is what you can expect from the Special One..
Chemistry
1 of 6Look for Real Madrid to have an extreme amount of chemistry. This is a key characteristic of the teams coached by Jose Mourinho and with a full season under the same squad Real Madrid will be a lot more comfortable with each other and cause a ton of problems for the opposition.
It may be difficult to have a Barcelona-esque type gelling of togetherness, but Madrid is talented enough to play together and win La Liga and have a run at the Champions League.
Reclaim the Copa Del Rey
2 of 6Look for Real Madrid to defend their lone big title this season. The Copa del Rey was a symbolic figure of their 2010/2011 season for the mere fact that it wasn't a complete failure.
The defeating of Barcelona in the Mestalla was better than nothing at all. Although he has admitted domestic cups aren't his main focus, Jose Mourinho and company will be out for a second this time around.
Cristiano Ronaldo Wins the Golden Boot Again in 2012
3 of 6Cristiano Ronaldo's 40 strikes in La Liga this season have given him the Golden Boot award for 2011, presented to the top scorer of all European leagues.
Cristiano is the first to earn 80 points in the run for the trophy and is the eighth player to win it twice, having previously taken it in 2008 as a Manchester United player. He is the now the record holder for goals in a season for La Liga.
Ronaldo won the Pichichi Trophy (presented to the top scorer in La Liga) with 40 strikes, nine more than runner-up Leo Messi. The double value Spanish league goals have in the run for the Golden Boot have allowed him to establish a new point record at 80.
Cristiano won the Golden Boot award back in 2008, having netted 31 goals with Manchester United in the Premier League. He played a key role in that team's league and UCL titles that season. The other footballers who have won the award twice are Eusebio, Muller, Georgescu, Fernando Gomes, Jardel, Henry and Forlan.
Ronaldo is also the second Madridista to win the award. Only Hugo Sanchez had managed to do it back in 1990 with 38 strikes. Georgescu's 1977 record 47 goals still has to be beaten, but it is nevertheless only the tenth time the winner has reached the 40 strike mark.
