NBA Trade Rumors: Would Andre Miller Be a Good Fit for Orlando Magic?
Latest NBA Trade Rumor Has the Magic and Trail Blazers Swapping Point Guards
The Orlando Magic do not have a first-round pick in Thursday night's NBA Draft, but the word on the street is that they are looking to change that and then some.
As reported by DraftExpress' Jonathan Givony via Twitter, the Magic have supposedly talked to the Portland Trail Blazers about a deal that would send Jameer Nelson to Portland in exchange for Andre Miller and the No. 21 overall pick in tonight's draft.
It's an interesting proposition, to say the least. Nelson has been a decent player for the Magic during his tenure with the team, and Miller is an older guy who won't necessarily be much of an upgrade. The appeal must be that he is the kind of player that would not be content to just let Dwight Howard do all the work. No doubt Howard would approve.
However, the endgame of this particular trade may not be that simple. HOOPSWORLD's Alex Kennedy has offered up some musings about this proposed swap on Twitter, and he makes it sound like the Magic have no interest in actually keeping Miller.
According to Kennedy, the fact that Miller's contract will be non-guaranteed if he is waived by June 29 makes him something of a valuable trade asset. If the Magic do acquire him, Kennedy thinks they would try to swing him and the No. 21 pick for Andre Iguodala or Josh Smith, the latter of whom is a player the Magic have been rumored to have an interest in.
If this is what the Magic have in mind, it sounds like they think a dominant frontcourt will be enough to win in the Eastern Conference. Hard to argue with the idea given the nature of the top teams in the conference.
