2011 NBA Mock Draft: Final Projections for Thursday Night
After months and months of analysis, speculation and rumors, the 2011 NBA Draft takes place tonight. While not the most exciting draft class of all-time, it does have its share of interest and intrigue.
There are no franchise saving players in this class, but a lot of guys have star potential. Chief among them is Kyrie Irving. The star point guard never really got a chance to show what he could do in college thanks to a foot injury that robbed him of over 20 games.
We will breakdown moves that we expect to be made tonight and other moves that will likely shock and surprise a lot of people.
Here are our final projections heading into tonight's NBA Draft.
| 1. Cleveland Cavaliers - Kyrie Irving | 16. Philadelphia 76ers - Nikola Vucevic |
| 2. Minnesota Timberwolves - Derrick Williams | 17. New York Knicks - Chris Singleton |
| 3. Utah Jazz - Enes Kanter | 18. Washington Wizards - Jordan Hamilton |
| 4. Cleveland Cavaliers - Jan Vesely | 19. Charlotte Bobcats - Donatas Motiejunas |

| 6. Washington Wizards - Tristan Thompson | 21. Portland Trail Blazers - Kenneth Faried |
| 7. Sacramento Kings - Kemba Walker | 22. Denver Nuggets - Marshon Brooks |

| 11. Golden State Warriors - Klay Thompson | 26. Dallas Mavericks - Reggie Jackson |
| 12. Utah Jazz - Jimmer Fredette | 27. New Jersey Nets - Jeremy Tyler |
| 13. Phoenix Suns - Kawhi Leonard | 28. Chicago Bulls - Justin Harper |
| 14. Houston Rockets - Jonas Valanciunas | 29. San Antonio Spurs - Davis Bertans |
| 15. Indiana Pacers - Markieff Morris | 30. Chicago Bulls - Tyler Honeycutt |
Projecting Picks 1 Thru 5
1 of 61. Cleveland Cavaliers: Kyrie Irving
2. Minnesota Timberwolves: Derrick Williams
- Williams will be the second pick one way or another. I doubt that Minnesota will trade the pick, but with this franchise, you never know. He should be a great offensive player thanks to his speed and ability to shoot from anywhere on the floor. Defense could be a problem because he is a little thin for the power forward position.
3. Utah Jazz: Enes Kanter
4. Cleveland Cavaliers: Jan Vesely
- In an ideal world, the Cavaliers would get Kyrie Irving and Enes Kanter, the best center in the draft. But with him off the board, the team will turn to another foreign player in Vesely. He's a pure projection pick because his numbers in Euroleague play were hardly impressive (10.4 points, 4.3 rebounds per game).
5. Toronto Raptors - Brandon Knight
| 1. Cleveland Cavaliers - Kyrie Irving | 16. Philadelphia 76ers - Nikola Vucevic |
| 2. Minnesota Timberwolves - Derrick Williams | 17. New York Knicks - Chris Singleton |
| 3. Utah Jazz - Enes Kanter | 18. Washington Wizards - Jordan Hamilton |
| 4. Cleveland Cavaliers - Jan Vesely | 19. Charlotte Bobcats - Donatas Motiejunas |
| 5. Toronto Raptors - Brandon Knight | 20. Minnesota Timberwolves - Iman Shumpert |
| 6. Washington Wizards - Tristan Thompson | 21. Portland Trail Blazers - Kenneth Faried |
| 7. Sacramento Kings - Kemba Walker | 22. Denver Nuggets - Marshon Brooks |
| 8. Detroit Pistons - Bismack Biyombo | 23. Houston Rockets - Darius Morris |
| 9. Charlotte Bobcats - Marcus Morris | 24. Oklahoma City Thunder - Nikola Mirotic |
| 10. Milwaukee Bucks - Alec Burks | 25. Boston Celtics - Tobias Harris |
| 11. Golden State Warriors - Klay Thompson | 26. Dallas Mavericks - Reggie Jackson |
| 12. Utah Jazz - Jimmer Fredette | 27. New Jersey Nets - Jeremy Tyler |
| 13. Phoenix Suns - Kawhi Leonard | 28. Chicago Bulls - Justin Harper |
| 14. Houston Rockets - Jonas Valanciunas | 29. San Antonio Spurs - Davis Bertans |
| 15. Indiana Pacers - Markieff Morris | 30. Chicago Bulls - Tyler Honeycutt |
Projecting Picks 6 Thru 10
2 of 66. Washington Wizards: Tristan Thompson
7. Sacramento Kings: Kemba Walker
-Walker could be the guy that falls in this draft. According to ESPN's Chad Ford, if he gets past Sacramento, he will drop way down. He had one of the great runs in NCAA history, leading Connecticut to victory in the Big East and NCAA tournaments. He is listed as a point guard, though he is not a true point guard. He is undersized for the point, and would have to move to the two in the NBA.
8. Detroit Pistons: Bismack Biyombo
-The Pistons won the hearts of a lot of fans in the middle of the last decade with their gritty, hard nosed style of play. Biyombo fits that description to the letter. He is very raw offensively, but is a rebounding and defensive wizard. Even if he never develops offensively, he could be a Ben Wallace-type player for this team defensively.
9. Charlotte Bobcats: Marcus Morris
10. Milwaukee Bucks: Alec Burks
| 1. Cleveland Cavaliers - Kyrie Irving | 16. Philadelphia 76ers - Nikola Vucevic |
| 2. Minnesota Timberwolves - Derrick Williams | 17. New York Knicks - Chris Singleton |
| 3. Utah Jazz - Enes Kanter | 18. Washington Wizards - Jordan Hamilton |
| 4. Cleveland Cavaliers - Jan Vesely | 19. Charlotte Bobcats - Donatas Motiejunas |
| 5. Toronto Raptors - Brandon Knight | 20. Minnesota Timberwolves - Iman Shumpert |
| 6. Washington Wizards - Tristan Thompson | 21. Portland Trail Blazers - Kenneth Faried |
| 7. Sacramento Kings - Kemba Walker | 22. Denver Nuggets - Marshon Brooks |
| 8. Detroit Pistons - Bismack Biyombo | 23. Houston Rockets - Darius Morris |
| 9. Charlotte Bobcats - Marcus Morris | 24. Oklahoma City Thunder - Nikola Mirotic |
| 10. Milwaukee Bucks - Alec Burks | 25. Boston Celtics - Tobias Harris |
| 11. Golden State Warriors - Klay Thompson | 26. Dallas Mavericks - Reggie Jackson |
| 12. Utah Jazz - Jimmer Fredette | 27. New Jersey Nets - Jeremy Tyler |
| 13. Phoenix Suns - Kawhi Leonard | 28. Chicago Bulls - Justin Harper |
| 14. Houston Rockets - Jonas Valanciunas | 29. San Antonio Spurs - Davis Bertans |
| 15. Indiana Pacers - Markieff Morris | 30. Chicago Bulls - Tyler Honeycutt |
Projecting Picks 11 Thru 15
3 of 611. Golden State Warriors: Klay Thompson
12. Utah Jazz: Jimmer Fredette
-I think that the allure of landing the biggest name in college basketball last year will cause Fredette to go before most people would expect. In this scenario, the Jazz are forced to take him because of who he is and where he went to college. His shooting stroke will play in the NBA, but his lack of defense and an undefined position will hold him back from stardom.
13. Phoenix Suns - Kawhi Leonard
14. Houston Rockets - Jonas Valanciunas
-Valanciunas could go No. 4 to the Cavaliers, depending on how they feel about his buyout with his team in Lithuania. Since it will take at least a year before he is able to play in the NBA, he will fall to the middle of the draft to the Rockets, who are looking for a center since Yao Ming's time is coming to an end.
15. Indiana Pacers - Markieff Morris
| 1. Cleveland Cavaliers - Kyrie Irving | 16. Philadelphia 76ers - Nikola Vucevic |
| 2. Minnesota Timberwolves - Derrick Williams | 17. New York Knicks - Chris Singleton |
| 3. Utah Jazz - Enes Kanter | 18. Washington Wizards - Jordan Hamilton |
| 4. Cleveland Cavaliers - Jan Vesely | 19. Charlotte Bobcats - Donatas Motiejunas |
| 5. Toronto Raptors - Brandon Knight | 20. Minnesota Timberwolves - Iman Shumpert |
| 6. Washington Wizards - Tristan Thompson | 21. Portland Trail Blazers - Kenneth Faried |
| 7. Sacramento Kings - Kemba Walker | 22. Denver Nuggets - Marshon Brooks |
| 8. Detroit Pistons - Bismack Biyombo | 23. Houston Rockets - Darius Morris |
| 9. Charlotte Bobcats - Marcus Morris | 24. Oklahoma City Thunder - Nikola Mirotic |
| 10. Milwaukee Bucks - Alec Burks | 25. Boston Celtics - Tobias Harris |
| 11. Golden State Warriors - Klay Thompson | 26. Dallas Mavericks - Reggie Jackson |
| 12. Utah Jazz - Jimmer Fredette | 27. New Jersey Nets - Jeremy Tyler |
| 13. Phoenix Suns - Kawhi Leonard | 28. Chicago Bulls - Justin Harper |
| 14. Houston Rockets - Jonas Valanciunas | 29. San Antonio Spurs - Davis Bertans |
| 15. Indiana Pacers - Markieff Morris | 30. Chicago Bulls - Tyler Honeycutt |
Projecting Picks 16 Thru 20
4 of 616. Philadelphia 76ers - Nikola Vucevic
17. New York Knicks - Chris Singleton
-Singleton is exactly the kind of player that this Knicks team needs right now. He is a lock down defender, who won't contribute a lot offensively. This team will score as much as any team in the NBA, but they are in desperate need of defenders and rebounders. Reportedly, the Knicks have their sights set on Jimmer Fredette, which would be a huge mistake for a number of reasons.
18. Washington Wizards - Jordan Hamilton
19. Charlotte Bobcats - Donatas Motiejunas
-Motiejunas, like many foreign born players entering the NBA, is rail thin and needs to add muscle if he wants to be a serious player in the NBA. He is a legit seven-footer and he has a really good looking shot, which will allow him to play away from the basket until he adds the muscle necessary to play in the post in the NBA.
20. Minnesota Timberwolves - Iman Shumpert
| 1. Cleveland Cavaliers - Kyrie Irving | 16. Philadelphia 76ers - Nikola Vucevic |
| 2. Minnesota Timberwolves - Derrick Williams | 17. New York Knicks - Chris Singleton |
| 3. Utah Jazz - Enes Kanter | 18. Washington Wizards - Jordan Hamilton |
| 4. Cleveland Cavaliers - Jan Vesely | 19. Charlotte Bobcats - Donatas Motiejunas |
| 5. Toronto Raptors - Brandon Knight | 20. Minnesota Timberwolves - Iman Shumpert |
| 6. Washington Wizards - Tristan Thompson | 21. Portland Trail Blazers - Kenneth Faried |
| 7. Sacramento Kings - Kemba Walker | 22. Denver Nuggets - Marshon Brooks |
| 8. Detroit Pistons - Bismack Biyombo | 23. Houston Rockets - Darius Morris |
| 9. Charlotte Bobcats - Marcus Morris | 24. Oklahoma City Thunder - Nikola Mirotic |
| 10. Milwaukee Bucks - Alec Burks | 25. Boston Celtics - Tobias Harris |
| 11. Golden State Warriors - Klay Thompson | 26. Dallas Mavericks - Reggie Jackson |
| 12. Utah Jazz - Jimmer Fredette | 27. New Jersey Nets - Jeremy Tyler |
| 13. Phoenix Suns - Kawhi Leonard | 28. Chicago Bulls - Justin Harper |
| 14. Houston Rockets - Jonas Valanciunas | 29. San Antonio Spurs - Davis Bertans |
| 15. Indiana Pacers - Markieff Morris | 30. Chicago Bulls - Tyler Honeycutt |
Projecting Picks 21 Thru 25
5 of 621. Portland Trail Blazers: Kenneth Faried
-Portland had arguably the best collection of young talent in the NBA five years ago. This team was poised to make a lot of noise in the Western Conference for a long time, but injuries and poor performance have taken a toll on this team. Faried is someone that this team has coveted for a long time, so it makes sense for them to take him if he's still on the board at No. 21.
22. Denver Nuggets: Marshon Brooks
-The Nuggets traded their most prolific scorer, Carmelo Anthony at the trade deadline in February and look like a better team as a result. Brooks, who is one of the best scorers in this draft, will pick up some of the offensive slack lost when they dealt Anthony.
23. Houston Rockets: Darius Morris
24. Oklahoma City Thunder: Nikola Mirotic
25. Boston Celtics: Tobias Harris
| 1. Cleveland Cavaliers - Kyrie Irving | 16. Philadelphia 76ers - Nikola Vucevic |
| 2. Minnesota Timberwolves - Derrick Williams | 17. New York Knicks - Chris Singleton |
| 3. Utah Jazz - Enes Kanter | 18. Washington Wizards - Jordan Hamilton |
| 4. Cleveland Cavaliers - Jan Vesely | 19. Charlotte Bobcats - Donatas Motiejunas |
| 5. Toronto Raptors - Brandon Knight | 20. Minnesota Timberwolves - Iman Shumpert |
| 6. Washington Wizards - Tristan Thompson | 21. Portland Trail Blazers - Kenneth Faried |
| 7. Sacramento Kings - Kemba Walker | 22. Denver Nuggets - Marshon Brooks |
| 8. Detroit Pistons - Bismack Biyombo | 23. Houston Rockets - Darius Morris |
| 9. Charlotte Bobcats - Marcus Morris | 24. Oklahoma City Thunder - Nikola Mirotic |
| 10. Milwaukee Bucks - Alec Burks | 25. Boston Celtics - Tobias Harris |
| 11. Golden State Warriors - Klay Thompson | 26. Dallas Mavericks - Reggie Jackson |
| 12. Utah Jazz - Jimmer Fredette | 27. New Jersey Nets - Jeremy Tyler |
| 13. Phoenix Suns - Kawhi Leonard | 28. Chicago Bulls - Justin Harper |
| 14. Houston Rockets - Jonas Valanciunas | 29. San Antonio Spurs - Davis Bertans |
| 15. Indiana Pacers - Markieff Morris | 30. Chicago Bulls - Tyler Honeycutt |
Projecting Picks 26 Thru 30
6 of 626. Dallas Mavericks: Reggie Jackson
-Jackson is an interesting player in this draft class. He has good skills, especially on the offensive side of the ball. He hasn't been able to workout at all this summer because of a knee injury. According to ESPN's Chad Ford, one team has told him not to workout because they are going to take him. We don't know who that team is, but the Mavs aren't afraid to take a flier on any player, especially if he will help them get back to the Finals someday.
27. New Jersey Nets: Jeremy Tyler
28. Chicago Bulls: Justin Harper
29. San Antonio Spurs: Davis Bertans
-The Spurs have an affinity for young international talent that will have to wait overseas for a year or two before they come to the NBA. Bertans is a 6'10" small forward, with the ability to create his own shot and great shooting stroke. His defense needs work, but he is going to the right coach to teach him the fundamentals of the game.
30. Chicago Bulls: Tyler Honeycutt
| 1. Cleveland Cavaliers - Kyrie Irving | 16. Philadelphia 76ers - Nikola Vucevic |
| 2. Minnesota Timberwolves - Derrick Williams | 17. New York Knicks - Chris Singleton |
| 3. Utah Jazz - Enes Kanter | 18. Washington Wizards - Jordan Hamilton |
| 4. Cleveland Cavaliers - Jan Vesely | 19. Charlotte Bobcats - Donatas Motiejunas |
| 5. Toronto Raptors - Brandon Knight | 20. Minnesota Timberwolves - Iman Shumpert |
| 6. Washington Wizards - Tristan Thompson | 21. Portland Trail Blazers - Kenneth Faried |
| 7. Sacramento Kings - Kemba Walker | 22. Denver Nuggets - Marshon Brooks |
| 8. Detroit Pistons - Bismack Biyombo | 23. Houston Rockets - Darius Morris |
| 9. Charlotte Bobcats - Marcus Morris | 24. Oklahoma City Thunder - Nikola Mirotic |
| 10. Milwaukee Bucks - Alec Burks | 25. Boston Celtics - Tobias Harris |
| 11. Golden State Warriors - Klay Thompson | 26. Dallas Mavericks - Reggie Jackson |
| 12. Utah Jazz - Jimmer Fredette | 27. New Jersey Nets - Jeremy Tyler |
| 13. Phoenix Suns - Kawhi Leonard | 28. Chicago Bulls - Justin Harper |
| 14. Houston Rockets - Jonas Valanciunas | 29. San Antonio Spurs - Davis Bertans |
| 15. Indiana Pacers - Markieff Morris | 30. Chicago Bulls - Tyler Honeycutt |
