2011 NBA Mock Draft: First Round's Top 5 Sleepers

Ethan NorofJun 23, 2011

The 2011 NBA draft will be packed with loads of potential talent on Thursday night.

There are some serious sleepers to be had in the crop of prospects available despite many deeming the class as a weak one overall, and that's exactly what we're going to discuss.

Jordan Hamilton leads the pack as one of the most prominent names to watch moving forward, but who will join him for the ride?

The draft is right around the corner, so make sure you don't hit the snooze button on these five guys.

5. Bismack Biyombo, PF Congo

1 of 6

Bismack Biyombo is looking like a lottery lock at this point, but that doesn't mean that he is not a serious sleeper.

The highly intriguing athlete and defensive stalwart will improve the front line of any team that drafts him, and he hasn't looked nearly as poor on the offensive end as had been previously speculated.

His upside warrants a legitimate top five selection in this shallow class, but there is boom-or-bust potential that scares off some interested clubs from investing too much in this selection.

4. Reggie Jackson, PG Boston College

2 of 6

Reggie Jackson might have a promise from the Miami Heat at No. 31, but the upside with this talented point guard may mean that he's not available when the team picks.

Despite standing just 6'3", Jackson has a legitimate seven-foot wingspan and is a freakish athlete. He demonstrates an incredibly high IQ for the game, and he rarely makes a bad decision on the court.

Despite the depth available at the point guard position in the 2011 draft class, Jackson is a legitimate possibility to be taken in the first round. If he's not, he should certainly be Miami's choice with the first pick of the second round.

3. Jordan Hamilton, SF Texas

3 of 6

Jordan Hamilton is a pure scorer that's ready to contribute in an NBA rotation right away, and it makes little sense if he's drafted outside of the lottery on Thursday night.

He upped his production across the board with increased playing time last season at Texas, and his style of game should have no trouble transitioning to the professional level.

Hamilton has enough skill to be valuable in multiple facets of the game, and his ability to rebound the ball well for a small forward will only boost his stock once he gets to show his stuff on the hardwood.

2. Iman Shumpert, PG/SG Georgia Tech

4 of 6

Iman Shumpert's rise to the forefront of the guard prospects in this draft has been among the most meteoric that I've seen in recent seasons.

After coming out of college with a probable second-round tag, Shumpert blew away talent evaluators at the NBA draft combine with his insane athleticism. Scouts are salivating over what the talented combo guard could be capable of achieving at the next level.

It wouldn't be surprising to see Shumpert go as high as the middle of the first round, as it's looking increasingly likely that he's a lock to be off of the board by the time the inaugural 30 selections are off the board.

1. Jeremy Tyler, C USA

5 of 6

Jeremy Tyler's professional career got off to a rough start when he left high school early to pursue a career in Israel, but he's really re-built his stock over the last 18 months.

At 6'10" and 260 lbs, Tyler is a definite center of the future for a team that's willing to take a gamble. He'll need to accumulate some experience at the next level before he gets to feeling comfortable, but his upside is massive and shouldn't be ignored.

Tyler just turned 20 years old, and that means that he's not done growing yet. By the time he's fully developed, he could be the next dominant center in the NBA.
