Philadelphia Phillies: 5 Players That Could Be Gone Come the July Trade Deadline
As the July trade deadline nears, The Philadelphia Phillies will be looking to move current players to relieve some salary and acquire a much-needed corner outfielder.
There are several Phillies and players in Triple-A Lehigh Valley that could be combined to obtain a quality right-handed bat. The Phillies need help in both right and left field. Raul Ibanez' career is over, Domonic Brown is still getting acclimated to the major leagues and Ben Francisco is not an everyday major league player.
The Phillies have an abundance of first base talent in the minor leagues and could use them as a throw-in to seal a deal.
John Mayberry Jr.
1 of 5John Mayberry Jr. has never quite lived up to his potential in his time with the Philadelphia Phillies. John has the natural tools a team may want to take a risk on. He has speed, a good arm and the ability to hit the long ball.
Mayberry can also provide a right-handed bat off the bench for many major league teams. He is currently 27 years old, so the time for John to make an impact for a major league team is now.
Cody Overbeck
2 of 5Cody Overbeck is another power-hitting first baseman who could be on the move to bring an everyday corner outfielder to Philadelphia.
Cody currently has 19 home runs this season, more than any other Phillie in the major or minor leagues.
Matt Rizzotti
3 of 5Yet again, the Phillies have a star player in the minor leagues playing first base. He can hit for power, average and can play a quality first base.
Matt Rizzotti is 6'5'', 265 lbs. He is batting .295 with 13 home runs. He could be a player a young team could build their organization around.
Brad Lidge
4 of 5Teams all over baseball would love to have a veteran closer on their team. The Phillies would most likely have to eat some of his salary, but it would be well worth it to help bring in a big right-handed bat into Philadelphia.
There is no place for Brad Lidge with the Phillies anymore. They have great, young relief talent in Triple-A and Ryan Madson, Antonio Bastardo and Michael Stutes have been great this season.
I would love to see Brad Lidge help the Phillies get another bat.
Joe Blanton
5 of 5If Joe Blanton can return before the July deadline and have one or two quality starts, he will be the most likely player to get dealt, especially with Vance Worley and Kyle Kendrick having the ability to make quality starts.
There are several teams that would love to add another starting pitcher that can eat innings like Joe Blanton can when he is healthy.
Please get healthy so the Phillies can trade you.
