The reigning Super Bowl champions are adding veteran help to their running back room with rookie Jadarian Price on injured reserve and Zach Charbonnet also sidelined.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported Monday the Seattle Seahawks are signing former Cincinnati Bengals and Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon, who will wear No. 25 with the team. Mixon appeared to confirm the news:

Mixon will join the practice squad, according to head coach Mike Macdonald.

Running back depth has become an area of concern for the Seahawks in the early going this season. Most notably, Price will miss at least four games on IR because of a chest injury.

"This is just what happens in football. Unfortunately, injuries happen," Macdonald told reporters. "He can't control these things. He's done everything we've asked him to do since he got here. He's had a great attitude. He's been a great teammate. He has a great future. He's going to play great football for us when he comes back, whenever that is ... It's just unfortunate."

As for Charbonnet, he is yet to play this season as he recovers from a torn ACL. However, Seattle opened his 21-day practice window on Thursday, suggesting he could be nearing his return.

With both of them out for Sunday's win over the Los Angeles Chargers, Emanuel Wilson thrived in the primary running back role. He finished with 21 carries for 81 yards and one touchdown to go with three catches for 39 yards and another score.

Backup George Holani tallied seven carries for 18 yards.

Given Wilson's success, Mixon surely won't come into Seattle and dominate the opportunities in the running game if he does see action in future games. However, he does provide a veteran presence to the depth chart and someone who can help the position tread water until Price and Charbonnet are ready to return.

Mixon played seven seasons for Cincinnati and surpassed the 1,000-yard mark on the ground four times, including when he was a Pro Bowler in 2021. He was also a Pro Bowler in 2024 with the Texans when he ran for 1,016 yards and 11 touchdowns.

However, the 30-year-old missed the 2025 campaign because of a foot injury. Houston released him in March, which is why he was available for the Seahawks.
