Manchester United: Dimitar Berbatov on His Way to PSG? He Deserves Better
Paris St Germain used to be a good football team. Back in the 90s they had players like Patrice Loko, Rai, David Ginola and, most notably, Ballon d’Or winner George Weah. Somewhere they lost track of what they were doing and have flitted with relegation in recent years, although last season saw them make somewhat of a revival, finishing fourth in the French league.
Seriously, though, what are they doing trying to sign Dimitar Berbatov? They are not worthy.
The answer comes shambling out of the desert, shrouded in a kaftan.

The Qatar Investment Authority have bought a controlling share in PSG and, as is all the rage in the middle east, have begun throwing money at turning PSG into some kind of European force. They have already splashed £11m on Kevin Gameiro, who Arsenal and Liverpool were looking at, and plan to do plenty more spending before the summer is out. One of their targets is Dimitar Berbatov for £10m.
There’s no secret to the fact that I’m a Berbalover. I think he adds so much to our game in comparison to some of the other strikers on our books, and is the only player in the squad capable of moments of outrageous technique or invention on a regular basis. He is also strong and holds the ball up well, assuming he’s not having one of his brain freeze games, which occur infrequently but at inopportune times.
On the other hand, I also accept that this town ain’t big enough for Owen, Berbatov, Rooney, Hernandez, Welbeck and Macheda and given that it would be lunacy to sell either Wayne or Chicha, Berbatov is our best bet for recouping a decent sum of money.
I can’t see Berbatov going to PSG for love nor money.
Berbatov enjoys playing for Manchester United because he feels like he’s at the best club in the world, and wouldn’t trade that feeling for anything. Even after his astonishing Champions League final snub, once he got over his obvious shock he was once again the model professional. If you disagree with me, just think how Carlos Tevez would have reacted to the same decision. He would still be tearing up the Wembley changing room now, a whole month later.
Are they going to wave oil-soaked notes in his direction? Probably, but the Berb has already shown that he could care less about some Sheikh's riches.
He refused to even speak to Manchester City, a club similar in stature to PSG, once he heard that Manchester United were interested in him. He is desperate to play a role in our 20th league title next season.
It would be completely out of character for Berbatov to move to PSG and it would be completely out of character for Sir Alex to sell one of his experienced professionals unless they were rocking the boat. At times last season Berbatov wasn’t rocking the boat. He WAS the boat.
There’s no way there’s any traction in this story.
