2011 NBA Mock Draft: Updated 1st-Round Projections
Potential NBA draft prospects' stocks seem to rise and fall on a daily basis.
Teams judge players on workouts and interviews but it still seems each organization takes a big risk with whichever player they select.
This stage of the draft can be a very stressful and difficult time for prospects when they hear about their stock dropping and falling so often but in the end it is all worth it.
Here is a mock draft of the first round of the 2011 NBA draft.
30. Chicago Bulls, Charles Jenkins PG
1 of 30
The Chicago Bulls need to find some scorers in this draft and a backup point guard for Derrick Rose. Charles Jenkins can fill both of those needs.
Jenkins is one of the best pure scorers in the draft this year and his combination of size and speed makes him a good fit at both guard positions in the NBA.
Jenkins falling this late would be nice for the Bulls and seeing as he could be one of the best sleepers in the draft, it would be a great pick.
29. San Antonio Spurs, Jeremy Tyler C
2 of 30
The San Antonio Spurs really like Jeremy Tyler and are known to be patient with prospects and let them develop overseas.
Tyler is a big-bodied center who isn't quite NBA ready but has high potential and could turn into a quality player down the road.
28. Chicago Bulls, Justin Harper PF
3 of 30
Justin Harper is a solid athlete who can spread the floor, just what the Chicago Bulls need.
Harper will be a great addition to the Bulls and will be able to come of the bench and provide a nice scoring spark without sacrificing any defense.
The Bulls could also look at another shooting guard here but Harper is still a good option.
27. New Jersey Nets, Tyler Honeycutt G/F
4 of 30
Tyler Honeycutt would fit in very well with the Nets and would be able to play off the ball alongside Deron Williams in New Jersey.
Honeycutt is a good shooter that can score in a variety of ways and spread the floor for New Jersey.
26. Dallas Mavericks, Nikola Mirotic SF
5 of 30
Nikola Mirotic isn't NBA ready but down the road he could develop into a very nice player.
The Dallas Mavericks are fresh off an NBA title run and don't need any help immediately so this would be a pick for the future, and a good one at that.
Mirotic is a good shooter with great size for a small forward and could be a good player down the road.
25. Boston Celtics, JaJuan Johnson PF
6 of 30
JaJuan Johnson is a polished, experience, big man and someone that could jump right into the aging Boston Celtic rotation and make an impact.
Johnson has long arms and can block shots but needs to gain some weight to be really effective in the NBA.
Johnson playing alongside Kevin Garnett would be huge for the young man and could help teach him how to be a professional.
24. Oklahoma City Thunder, Davis Bertans SF
7 of 30
Davis Bertans is going to need some time to develop but with some work is a very high ceiling guy and could play a big role in the Oklahoma City Thunder's future.
The Thunder would get a guy with great shooting ability and solid size who just needs to polish his game before entering the NBA.
23. Houston Rockets, Reggie Jackson PG
8 of 30
The Houston Rockets are going to move forward with Kyle Lowery as their starting point guard which then leaves a hole at the backup spot.
Reggie Jackson can fill that hole and is NBA ready. Jackson plays excellent defense with his length and with some development of his athleticism, could become a solid offensive player down the road for Houston.
22. Denver Nuggets, Tobias Harris PF
9 of 30
Tobias Harris is a very underrated prospect and for an 18-year-old kid, is very polished.
Harris has a high basketball I.Q. and can play multiple positions.
Harris would be a great fit for the Denver Nuggets because he could play limited minutes and learn his way around the NBA from the bench.
21. Portland Trail Blazers, Kenneth Faried PF
10 of 30
The Portland Trail Blazers really like Kenneth Faried and his ability to rebound the basketball and play defense would be a great pair with LaMarcus Aldridge.
Faried has long arms and is quite athletic and throwing him into the Portland rotation would have an immediate positive impact on the team.
20. Minnesota Timberwolves, Marshon Brooks SG
11 of 30
Marshon Brooks has been up and down on people's draft boards lately but he would fit in very well in Minnesota.
The Timberwolves could use some more scoring at the wing positions and Brooks would definitely bring that to the table.
Brooks is an aggressive scorer who can make plays with and without the ball and would be great alongside Ricky Rubio.
19. Charlotte Bobcats, Nolan Smith PG/SG
12 of 30
Nolan Smith is a versatile, experienced combo guard who is NBA ready and who should have a long NBA career as at least a rotation player.
Smith can play both guard positions which would add depth to the Bobcats and help them build for the future.
18. Washington Wizards, Markieff Morris PF
13 of 30
The Washington Wizards could use some depth in their front court and a good character guy like Markieff Morris would be great for their team.
Morris is a little undersized but is strong. He has good rebounding ability along with solid post moves and would be a very good pick for the Wizards.
17. New York Knicks, Josh Selby PG
14 of 30
Josh Selby would be the perfect fit for the New York Knicks because he has a lot of upside and down the road could be a great rotation scorer if the Knicks ever do develop the "Big Three" they are looking for.
Selby is an unpolished scorer who is young but placed in the high powered Knicks offense and he could be a very good player.
16. Philadelphia 76ers, Jordan Hamilton SF
15 of 30
With the Philadelphia 76ers shopping around Andre Iguodala there is potential they will need to replace him.
Jordan Hamilton would be great for that and is a very similar player to Iggy.
Hamilton has good length and plays good perimeter defense and is also a great scorer and shooter.
15. Indiana Pacers, Jimmer Fredette PG
16 of 30
Jimmer Fredette would be a great fit for the Pacers, who need scoring and shooting and some help at the point guard position.
Jimmer is obviously one of the best shooters and scorers in the draft and with some development could become a very good passing point guard someday in the future.
14. Houston Rockets, Bismack Biyombo PF
17 of 30
Bismack Biyombo's draft stock has been all over the place since the lack of information about him but what we do know is that he is an athletic freak and has a great NBA body.
Biyombo has great potential to become a rim protector and rebound machine in the NBA which could greatly help the Houston Rockets down the road.
13. Phoenix Suns, Alec Burks SG
18 of 30
Alec Burks had a great season last year at Colorado and while he isn't quite NBA ready he has tons of potential.
Burks is a great scorer with good size and would be a perfect fit to play alongside Steve Nash for the Phoenix Suns.
12. Utah Jazz, Klay Thompson PG
19 of 30
Klay Thompson is arguably the best shooter in this year's draft and his size makes him a great point guard prospect.
Thompson could be a great fit in Utah and someday be a major part of their offense.
11. Golden State Warriors, Chris Singleton SF
20 of 30
Chris Singleton is one of the best defenders in the draft and defense is just what the Golden State Warriors need.
Singleton plays small forward but can guard multiple positions and with some work on the offensive end, could become a starter in the NBA.
10. Milwaukee Bucks, Tristan Thompson PF
21 of 30
Tristan Thompson would be a good pick for the Milwaukee Bucks because he would bring their front court some much needed depth and be a good fit to someday play opposite of Andrew Bogut in the post.
Thompson has a good NBA body and a lot of potential and with work should become a good player down the road.
9. Charlotte Bobcats, Kemba Walker PG
22 of 30
Kemba Walker is just what the Charlotte Bobcats need and his unique scoring ability would be something the Bobcats could build around as a future plan for their team.
Walker is a bit undersized but can shoot he ball decently and can get to, and finish at, the rim.
Walker could play for a team owned by Michael Jordan which would help any young scorer's confidence.
8. Detroit Pistons, Jonas Valanciunas PF
23 of 30
Jonas Valanciunas has very high upside and could be a project for the Pistons' future.
Jonas is athletic and has a very large body that is NBA-ready.
If he can develop his skills to match his body he should be a very good NBA player someday.
7. Sacramento Kings, Marcus Morris PF
24 of 30
Marcus Morris is a safe pick for the Sacramento Kings and could become the second guy of a one-two punch of Morris and DeMarcus Cousins.
Morris can do the dirty work of rebounding and playing great defense while Cousin's handles the scoring load and dominates games from inside.
6. Washington Wizards, Kawhi Leonard
25 of 30
The Washington Wizards could use some perimeter defenders who won't jack up a lot of shots and won't cause locker room problems, which is exactly what Kawhi Leonard is.
Leonard has long arms and plays shut down perimeter defense. He has improved his shooting and impressed scouts with it during summer workouts and shouldn't fall any lower then six.
5. Toronto Raptors, Jan Vesely PF
26 of 30
Jan Vesley is a great athlete and is ready to play today.
Vesley will be able to jump right into the Toronto Raptors rotation and with his size, athleticism and scoring ability will be a huge help to a Toronto team that struggled to find scoring in the paint.
4. Cleveland Cavaliers, Enes Kanter PF/C
27 of 30
Enes Kanter isn't the prototypical European big man and he likes to bang in the post and play a back-to-the-basket style game.
Kanter will be a great piece to build around for the Cleveland Cavaliers and he has a lot of potential to become a good big man in the NBA someday.
3. Utah Jazz, Brandon Knight PG
28 of 30
Brandon Knight is the point guard of the future for the Utah Jazz and the Jazz are very lucky to have him.
Knight has good size and speed and along with a nice passing ability, he is able to score well at the rim and from outside.
Knight will be a great piece to build around for the Jazz and will be the heir to the Deron Williams throne in Utah.
2. Minnesota Timberwolves Derrick Williams, SF
29 of 30
While many consider Derrick Williams to be a "tweener", I consider him versatile.
He has the skill and size to play two positions in the NBA and will be a matchup nightmare for along time in the NBA.
Williams shot the ball great his last year at Arizona and knocked down threes as well as he posted up.
The Timberwolves need wing scoring and Williams and Ricky Rubio, paired with Kevin Love, are the future in Minnesota.
1. Cleveland Cavaliers, Kyrie Irving PG
30 of 30
It seems almost a guarantee that Kyrie Irving will be taken number one overall, and rightfully so.
Iriving is clearly the best player in this years draft and the Cleveland Cavaliers will have a great guy to build their team around and try and get back into title contention with.
