The Players Arsenal Need to Sign to Take the Team to the Next Level

Arsene Wenger has constantly been criticised for not spending enough. He does not buy good enough players—he buys players who under-perform. In this slideshow I will look at the players I think Wenger needs to sign to achieve success in the forthcoming season. The main criteria that will be looked upon will be the defence and midfield. This could potentially be a make or break season for Arsenal. The potential is there. They just need to start performing to win trophies.

Leadership is another hotly debated factor when it comes to Arsenal. While Fabregas is be a great player he isn’t necessarily a great captain. It is no secret that Arsenal lack the steel they had when Tony Adams and Patrick Vieira were captains. Some members of the current squad will make great captains in the future, but for now they need someone to guide them.

Per Mertesacker

Full name: Per Mertesacker

Age: 26

Height: 1.98m

Value: £10-12 million

Described by many a perfect fit for Arsenal, the defender is truly a great player. He has tremendous aerial skills and the ability to read the game very well. Surprisingly for a defender he gets relatively few bookings.

This is a key aspect of Mertersacker’s game. Arsenal’s opponents tend to counter-attack a lot. Hence his reading and relatively clean game will be hugely vital.

Javier Mascherano

Full name: Javier Alejandro Mascherano

Age: 26

Height: 1.74m

Value: £25 million

Without a doubt one of the best defensive midfielders in the world. Very strong in the tackle, his tactical knowledge is also really good. More importantly he has plenty of premiership experience. Liverpool fans will know all about his crunching tackles.

In my opinion Arsenal can deal without Fabregas, so having Mascherano would add an edge to Arsenal.

Balazs Dzsudzsak

Age: 24

Height: 1.79

Value: £11-13 million

He has been called the Hungarian Arjen Robben, which means that he is quite good. Like a fine bottle of wine he seems to be getting better with age. The golden boy of Hungarian football will definitely benefit Arsenal. His versatility is another incentive for Wenger to buy him.

He can play on the wings and as an attacking midfielder. His speed and skills will enhance Arsenal.
