Jay Triano Out as Toronto Raptors Head Coach: Finally!
The Toronto Raptors have declined the option on coach Jay Triano’s contract.
This is a move many fans in Toronto felt was way past due despite Triano being involved with Team USA as an assistant.
Jay Triano is one of the top assistant coaches in the league, as a head coach however he did not inspire confidence.
Raptors fans will now immediately turn their attention to Rick Adelman formerly of the Rockets and Kings, and is someone whom, due to his success with Kevin Martin should allow DeMar DeRozan to reach the next stage in his development.
Reaction:
As stated above, this move had to happen.
Triano was not the greatest selection for coach to begin with but now that candidates like Adelman are out there the Raptors would be foolish not to test the waters to see if someone with the renown of Adelman may be interested in the Raptors job.
I do not think Triano is a horrible coach by any means, I just do not think he is the right coach for this particular team.
He was largely kept on in part to appease Chris Bosh who had a great working relationship with the Raptors former assistant coach.
There were also rumors that Mike D’Antoni might become available this summer, but for now they are just that rumors.
Brian Shaw, Lawrence Frank and Dwane Casey will also be potential candidates.
