College Football Recruiting 2012: Predicting June's Biggest Commitments
May is over, well, officially tomorrow, but technically June is just about here, so that means we are one month closer to Signing Day 2012.
We saw some of the top prospects make commitments and/or narrow down their lists in May and June, which will bring us even bigger pledges on the recruiting scene.
I figured I would have a little bit of fun with this piece and try to predict some of the biggest commitments that could happen before July.
6. Ricky Parks, TE
1 of 6
Hailing from the Peach State, Parks is one the top TE prospects in the 2012 crop. 6'4", 240 pounds, he has been timed in the high 4.6 range in the 40.
Parks has a good amount of offers but has Georgia, Auburn and Alabama as high front-runners. Word has it that Parks has made several trips to Auburn and is in love with the program.
He says he is looking to commit pretty soon, so look for him to pull the trigger with the Cats before June is over.
5. Eli Harold, OLB/DE
2 of 6
6'3", 215 pounds, Harold is a pass rusher with a high ceiling. He's a bit light in the pants right now, but on tape you can see his burst, play speed and athletic ability very easily.
Harold can play OLB on first and second down, then put his down to rush in sub-packages on third down.
He lists his top three of Virginia, North Carolina and Florida, but the Hoos are in the lead and Harold is more than vocal about it.
Look for him to make Mike London a happy man this month.
4. Justin Shanks, DT
3 of 6
Shanks is a 6'4", 295-pound DT prospect that looks like a prime fit as a 30 front end. He's big, long, strong and can shed/escape blocks easily. Shanks also shows solid athleticism and short area range along the the line of scrimmage.
He has two teammates in Justin Thomas and Caleb Gulledge that have pledged to Alabama, and the Crimson Tide have revved up their efforts to make it a trifecta at Prattville High School in Alabama.
While Auburn has been in the hunt for Shanks as a major player, I think he pulls the trigger for 'Bama in June.
3. Shaq Roland, WR
4 of 6
Roland is one of the premier WR recruits in college, and a new twist has developed for the 6'1", 180-pounder form the Palmetto State: He may decide to play football and basketball in college.
Roland has his final four of South Carolina, Florida, Georgia and Alabama. While he has said that he likely will try to wait to make a decision in August, many feel Roland could announce anytime. And by anytime, I mean in June.
The Gamecocks are the team to beat, and they won't be beaten for Roland as I think he could pledge to play in Columbia this month.
2. DJ Humphries, OT
5 of 6
Perhaps the most athletic offensive tackle in the country, Humphries is a 6'6", 265-pound blocker that compares favorably to Jets Pro Bowl LT D'Brickashaw Ferguson.
Humphries shows incredible and easy movement, knee bend, balance, agility, foot quickness, hip flexibility and natural athleticism as a football player. He has first-round pick potential as a left tackle.
Florida is the leader, and Humphries has even said Gainesville feels like home. He'll announce he's going home sometime this month.
1. Gunner Kiel, QB
6 of 6
Reports have surfaced on both fronts in regards to Gunner Kiel's feelings about Notre Dame. Some claim the 6'4", 220-pound QB, who is considered the best signal caller in the country, to have eliminated the Irish.
Still, others say that isn't true and that the nephew of Blair Kiel is still considering following his uncle's footsteps to South Bend.
Count me as one who resides in the former's school of thought, as it seems Kiel likes Oklahoma, Michigan and Alabama, with the Sooners having the lead.
I think there is a good chance Kiel decides to pull the trigger with Bob Stoops this month.
