Jim Tressel: The Vest Resigns as Head Coach of the Ohio State University
Amidst all of the scandals surrounding the Ohio State football program head coach Jim Tressel, according to the Columbus Dispatch, has resigned from his head coaching duties.
Tressel built a dynasty at Ohio State; 106-22 overall record, one National Championship, seven BCS bowl appearances (four wins) and seven Conference Titles. More importantly he was a great recruiter and his players loved playing for him.
Tressel became an icon at Ohio State but his 10 year reign is now over.
For Buckeye nation it will be hard to envision Tressel not roaming the sidelines in his sweater vest anymore. Tressel was an all time great coach for the Buckeyes, but lapses in judgement have proven to much for him to overcome.
So who fill in for the vest?
For now, it's tenth year assistant coach Luke Fickell. Fickell was the co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach for the Buckeyes but now he is the interim head coach.
Fickell is a graduate of the Ohio State University where he played and started at nose guard from 1993-1996. Luke started an Ohio State record 50 consecutive games during his career while accumulating 212 tackles with 26 tackles for loss.
Fickell will be the head coach of the Buckeyes for the 2011-2012. University Officials will be interviewing other possible candidates for the job and one can't help but think if Urban Meyer's name will come up.
