Minnesota Timberwolves GM David Kahn: The Real Joke at the NBA Draft Lottery

Mike RaffoneMay 25, 2011

Last week, Minnesota Timberwolves general manager David Kahn joked that the NBA draft lottery was rigged.

However, many NBA insiders were not at all surprised by Kahn's tongue-in-cheek remark.

Widely known for his propensity to open his mouth with both of his high top Nikes still in it, Kahn once again displayed a reckless immaturity not expected from a man in an NBA general management position.

Kahn, who some NBA contemporaries claim doesn't have a clue, has failed to foster any hope in the foreseeable future for fans of the NBA's most futile franchise, leading many to ask, "What's next for the questionable Kahn?"

Will he waste his team's enviable No. 2 NBA lottery pick on another legally encumbered, tantalizing European talent like Spain's Ricky Rubio with no desire to brave the brutal Minnesota winters?

Will he realize that Darko Milicic's NBA trade value will never yield more than a bag of popcorn? (A small bag, that is!)

Will he continue to hope that the Timberwolves can harness any future fortunes, other than a bag of weed (a big bag, that is) from malcontent Michael Beasley?

Or will Kahn consider frittering away the T'Wolves' prized All-Star forward Kevin Love in a multi-team trade for the likes of other underwhelming lottery picks Kwame Brown, Greg Oden and Adam Morrison?

Although David Kahn claimed it was a joke when he said the NBA's draft lottery is rigged, this NBA general manager's oversight of arguably the league's worst franchise is no laughing matter.

Kahn's performance is the real joke in NBA news.

Straight talk. No static.
