Alabama Football: Tide Running Back Tranfers for His Sr. Season to Get Runs
Larry Burton (Syndicated Writer) Coming out of High School, Demetrius Goode looked to be a future star at Alabama, a school where other members of his family had played and shined.
But a combination of injuries and some of the nation's top recruiting classes meant that Goode was looking at his senior season on the bench just like all the other years. With Richardson and Lacey nailing down the first two positions and the apparent writing on the wall that Hart was next in the line of succession, Goode decided to leave and enjoy his senior year at a place where he could finally cut loose and run.
That school will be the University of North Alabama, and Coach Terry Bowden is proud to have him.
"We're excited that Demetrius has chosen to finish his college football career here at UNA," Bowden said. "He comes with the highest recommendations from every coach I had the opportunity to talk to at Alabama in regards to his character, football playing ability and work ethic."
As for Goode, he broke the news as many players do these days: on his Facebook page. His end at Alabama was not bitter in the least and it was a decision that was 100 percent his own.
In the true classiness that we have always known Goode to have, he said, “I have learned many things and matured in many ways but everyday brings about change. Sometimes you have to move on to do better in life. I will be moving to North Alabama for football. RTR forever in my heart, the champion Tide, the fans that I will always love and never forget. I thank ya’ll for the support: ROLL TIDE ROLL. For life.”
Just as Goode leaves with a smile on his face and nothing but good wishes for his old team, it is reciprocated by the coaches, fans and especially the players that have all grown to know and love him. He will be missed, but everyone on the team understands his decision and wishes him well.
The transfer shows just how stacked the Tide is right now. At most any SEC school, Goode would get dozens of carries a game. In Alabama style he is quick not overly fast, but punishing in his running style. He can hit the hole quickly, burst through the first line and then dare a corner back to try and stop him one on one.
Goode should tear it up at UNA and the Alabama fans will be looking on to keep up with their former son. He is finally free of injuries and at 5'10'' and 205 pounds of muscle, he should threaten to break the starting lineup at his new school.
