NBA Trade Rumors: 10 Potential Deals to Get Brandon Jennings Out of Milwaukee
With the offseason coming sooner than later, there's no doubt that there will be a ton of intriguing NBA trade rumors circling the league.
There were rumors circulating at the NBA draft combine that Milwaukee Bucks point guard Brandon Jennings could be available for the right price in a deal, and now just about any team with a need at point guard is certain to take a look.
All of the potential trades were calculated using ESPN's trade calculator, ensuring that the scenario would realistically work out for both parties.
10. Toronto Raptors
1 of 10
Milwaukee Acquires: PG J. Calderon, C A Bargnani, C S. Alabi, No. 5 pick
Toronto Acquires: PG B. Jennings, SG J. Salmons, PG K. Dooling
The Toronto Raptors desperately need to turn the page from the Jose Calderon era, and Brandon Jennings is a sensational way to usher in a new era.
With the deal, Milwaukee acquires a point guard to replace Jennings, a perimeter-oriented power forward in Andrea Bargnani to pair with Andrew Bogut, and the fifth overall pick to address another need.
The Raptors not only add Jennings, but also add capable veteran swingman in John Salmons, who provides a serious upgrade over Sonny Weems as the sixth man off of the bench.
9. Detroit Pistons
2 of 10
Milwaukee Acquires: SG B. Gordon, SF A. Daye, No. 33 pick
Detroit Acquires: PG B. Jennings, SG J. Salmons, PF L. Sanders
The Pistons acquire a true point guard in Jennings to replace Rodney Stuckey, who the front office has repeatedly shown hesitance in trusting throughout his career.
For the Bucks, they get rid of Salmons' lucrative contract, can obtain a promising talent with the third overall pick in the second round, and get a promising young small forward in Austin Daye.
Additionally, Larry Sanders can serve as some necessary youth along a Detroit front line that needs some fresh blood alongside Greg Monroe.
8. Los Angeles Clippers
3 of 10
Milwaukee Acquires: PG M. Williams, SF R. Gomes, future first-round draft pick, No. 37 pick
Los Angeles Acquires: PG B. Jennings, SG J. Salmons, PG K. Dooling
Mo Williams is anything but the long-term answer at the point position for the Clippers, and Eric Bledsoe is certainly no lock to turn into one, either.
The team is desperate to get rid of Ryan Gomes, and John Salmons would give them a legitimate starter in the small forward spot to play alongside Blake Griffin and help to stretch the floor with Eric Gordon.
The Bucks improve their team for the future and still get pieces in return that can help fill the gap until their vision comes to fruition.
7. Portland Trail Blazers
4 of 10
Milwaukee Acquires: SG R. Fernandez, SF G. Wallace, No. 40 pick
Portland Acquires: PG B. Jennings, SG J. Salmons, SF E. Ilyasova
Although the Blazers liked what Gerald Wallace brought to the team last season, they've already got a long-term successor in Nicolas Batum at the small forward position.
With the Andre Miller era likely coming to a close in Portland, Jennings would provide an explosive option at the position that would help to build on the Blazers' team identity.
Additionally, they bring in Salmons to replace Fernandez and don't lose out on too much by sending their second-round selection to Portland.
6. San Antonio Spurs
5 of 10
Milwaukee Acquires: PG T. Parker, SF R. Jefferson, No. 29 pick, No. 59 pick, future first-rounder, future second-rounder
San Antonio Acquires: PG B. Jennings, SG J. Salmons, PF L. Sanders, No. 10 pick
The Spurs need to change up their look entering next season after a disappointing first-round exit against Memphis, and there has been some talk of Parker being the piece of the puzzle that moves.
The move would certainly provide San Antonio the youth that they sorely need, since they'll upgrade with Salmons over Jefferson and bring in Larry Sanders to help bolster the front line, and they can go young once again with the 10th overall selection that they get as part of the deal.
Most importantly, the Spurs get Brandon Jennings to run the offense for several seasons and shed the extension that they may regret handing Parker at season's beginning.
5. Utah Jazz
6 of 10
Milwaukee Acquires: PG D. Harris, R. Bell, No. 12 pick
Utah Acquires: PG B. Jennings, SG J. Salmons, PG K. Dooling, No. 40 pick
Although the Jazz just acquired Harris as part of the Deron Williams deal, he looked like Mr. Glass in his inaugural tenure with the team and could have fallen out of favor.
Additionally, Raja Bell hasn't exactly shaped up to be the weapon that the Jazz were hoping for him to be, and they wouldn't be opposed to dealing him.
For the Bucks, they get two selections in the lottery to help rebuild and receive a capable starter in Devin Harris to replace Jennings, and the drop-off in production wouldn't be all that much.
4. Los Angeles Lakers
7 of 10
Milwaukee Acquires: PG S. Blake, SF R. Artest, SF D. Ebanks, No. 41 pick
Los Angeles Acquires: PG B. Jennings, SG J. Salmons
The Lakers clearly need to address the point guard situation, because they're not going to win anything with the revolving door of Steve Blake and Derek Fisher at the position.
The team probably also wouldn't mind moving Ron Artest, who struggled mightily in his second season with the team, and they clearly have no plans for Devin Ebanks in the future.
The acquisition of Jennings gives the Lakers a massive face-lift without changing any of the major pieces to the equation, and there's no doubt that the charismatic point guard could be a different player performing in front of the hometown crowd.
3. New York Knicks
8 of 10
Milwaukee Acquires: PG T. Douglas, SG L. Fields, SF B. Walker
New York Acquires: PG B. Jennings
The Knicks need a face-lift at the point guard position, and after passing on Jennings in the draft a couple of seasons ago, the team has a chance to right its colossal wrong.
Although some fans might be hesitant at the idea of giving up both Fields and Douglas for Jennings, this is an absolute steal for the team and they shouldn't be hesitant to pull the trigger just because the kid has outplayed his draft slot.
With Amar'e and Carmelo aboard, Jennings would have to look for his shot less, but I'm guessing that the chance at playing for a championship and the bright lights of Madison Square Garden would help to make the necessary adjustments in BJ's game.
2. New Orleans Hornets
9 of 10
Milwaukee Acquires: PG C. Paul
New Orleans Acquires: PG B. Jennings, SG J. Salmons, SF C. Delfino, No. 10 pick, future first-rounder, future second-rounder
There's one overwhelming thing to keep in mind for any potential trade involving Chris Paul: The NBA controls the Hornets and the team's finances.
With that in mind, they're going to look for the absolute maximum return in value for players to help build the franchise back into a respectful, competitive team once CP3 ultimately departs.
Jennings would provide a franchise face for the Hornets, Salmons is an instant upgrade at shooting guard and Carlos Delfino proved that he was for real with his contributions last season.
Add in the draft picks that NOLA is slated to receive, and suddenly the future for the Hornets isn't looking all that bad without Paul.
1. Charlotte Bobcats
10 of 10
Milwaukee Acquires: PG D. Augustin, $2.32 million trade exception, No. 19 pick, No. 39 pick
Charlotte Acquires: PG B. Jennings, SG J. Salmons, PG K. Dooling
If the Bucks are indeed serious about turning the page on the Brandon Jennings era, this is a great way to go about doing exactly that.
The acquisition of D.J. Augustin provides Milwaukee an instant plug-in starter in the wake of Jennings' departure, while the trade exception will help to deliver financial relief on a future deal.
Additionally, the team gets a second top-20 pick which helps to re-stack the deck for the future of the team.
The Bobcats finally get a legitimate starting point guard after wavering on Augustin since he was drafted and ascertain a starting two who has been playing with Jennings, so the backcourt chemistry would keep brewing.
Charlotte still holds the No. 9 pick in the upcoming draft, so the chance to draft an impact player for the team remains, and a starting five of Jennings, Salmons, Jackson, Tyrus Thomas to pair with a center of the team's choosing is suddenly a lot more promising than what they ended with in 2011.
