Andre Iguodala for Minnesota Timberwolves' No. 2 Pick?

Bobby YostMay 19, 2011

With the NBA draft lottery recently completed, the Philadelphia 76ers can begin to fully focus on the draft and offseason. The three biggest stories this summer will be the upcoming draft, the future of Andre Iguodala, and what to do with Thaddeus Young.

Sitting at No. 16 in an overall supposedly weak draft class, there is little hope the 76ers can find a franchise-changing player who can put them into at least conference semi-finals contention.

Going into next year with the same nucleus with only adding a mid-first round pick offers little improvement from this past season. In order to get over the hump, the Sixers need to take a chance.

Enter the Timberwolves. Following the lottery, rumors began circulating Timberwolves' GM David Kahn is open to trading the pick for veteran help. Maybe that veteran help can be Andre Iguodala.

In Iguodala, the Timberwolves get themselves one of the best perimeter defenders in the NBA who can fit right in at small forward, and is still young enough where it does not hinder their future.

The two more years, and a player option for a third, left on his contract does not look as bad as it used to be.

The Timberwolves may have to add a salary filler to help offset some of the cost of adding an additional $13.5 million next year, but I do not think they'd mind throwing in a marginal player like Milicic, Ridnour, Pekovic, Tolliver or Webster.

For the Sixers, attaining the No. 2 pick will most likely land them Enes Kanter, Derrick Williams, or Jonas Valanciunas.

After a year or two developing behind Elton Brand and whoever their center may be (probably Hawes), hopefully they will be set at the four or five for years to come. In addition, moving Iguodala will mean much-needed minutes and development for Evan Turner.

I'd also be fine throwing in the No. 16 pick as well, which they may have to as other teams, such as the Pacers, are interested in the second pick also.

It's certainly a risky move, as any of those players could turn into a bust. Even if that happens, their position in the league won't be any different as it is now.
