NBA Rumors: Minnesota Timberwolves Should Trade for 76ers' SG Andre Iguodala

Camden PaschMay 21, 2011

The rumor that has currently been floating around the NBA is that the Philadelphia 76ers might trade Andre Iguodala in order to move up in next month's draft. The 76ers currently sit at pick No. 16 in the draft and at that position in the draft order, not many impact players will be available.

Iguodala had made it known that he wasn't happy in Philadelphia, due to them not winning, and that he would be open to a trade.ย

If a player doesn't want to stay on a certain team, then there's no use in keeping the player anyway, even though it could disrupt the team chemistry and the growth of young players. The 76ers had been rumored to be shopping him before and during the trading deadline last season, so for him to be shipped out of Philadephia would not beย surprisingย at all.ย

Philadelphia is one of the up-and-coming teams in the NBA, with a good core of young talent. Jrue Holiday, Evan Turner, Lou Williams and Thaddeus Young present the 76ers with a nice lineup for the present andย future.ย

What the 76ers need is a big man in their frontcourt. The targeted player in this draft worth trading up for is Enes Kanter, the 6'11", 260-pound center out of Turkey. Kanter, like most of the 76ers roster, is a young and developing player, and he would also fulfill the team's main need.

The Minnesota Timberwolves could be that trade partner the 76ers are looking for.

The Timberwolves were once againย disappointed with the lottery outcome when they were not the team that won the top pick in the draft. They did, however, win the second pick in the draft and while it isn't what they were looking for, it does present them with a plethora of options.

One of the best options that Minnesota GM David Kahn could do with that No. 2 pick is to trade it away and acquire an above-average, veteran player at the shooting guard position.

The 76ers would package together Iguodala, Jodie Meeks and their No. 16 pick this year for the Timberwolves' No. 2 pick overall, Nikola Pevokic, Martell Webster and Wayne Ellington.

The 76ers take on some bad contracts and players, but they still come away with the high draft pick they covet and a small amount of salary cap relief.

The Timberwolves find their SG that they need while also adding Meeks for depth and a mid-round pick for a defensive-minded player.

As for Minnesota's point guard issue, it looks like Ricky Rubio will end up signing with the Wolves this offseason if everything goes as planned. He has done all that he can do overseas and the NBA is what's next in his future.

A starting lineup that consists of Rubio at the point guard position, Iguodala playing shooting guard, Michael Beasley as the small forward and Kevin Love as the power forward would ensure that the Wolves have a good team going into the next NBA season.
