NBA Draft 2011: Kyrie Irving Skips Drills, Should the Cavaliers Be Worried?

Dan RenfroMay 19, 2011

Kyrie Irving has decided not to participate in the on-court drills at the NBA combine.

While this may not be as big of a deal as the NFL combine is, nearly all draftees participate in the on-court drills. Irving, however, has opted not to.

Does this mean anything?

Probably not.

Still, for any Cleveland Cavaliers fans that are left, this can't mean anything positive.

If his foot is still bothering him, or if it has slowed him down, he would obviously skip these workouts to keep his draft stock sky high. Even though he skipped the workouts, however, it doesn't mean the injury is still lingering.

This draft doesn't have any guaranteed superstars, which is why Irving has surfaced as the best player. Even though he didn't play a dozen college games, people are already tagging him as the Cavaliers' new savior.

For the doubters, remember that their last savior didn't even go to college.

While it's not fair to label a kid a savior, what other choice do the Cavs have?

They were awful this year. They had the best record in the league last season, and they have fallen into nothingness. They need a new savior.

A point guard would be great. A healthy Irving would be great.

Yet Irving hasn't stayed healthy at a top level, and no one can be sure if his game will translate into the NBA.

For the Cavaliers' sake, I hope he is successful. They need some good luck.

Irving skipped the workouts, which could be a red flag. The Cavaliers will need to work him out extensively to make sure that he is completely healthy and ready to help them return to the playoffs.

That being said, this could be a sign that Irving isn't the sure thing that people seem to think he is.
