2011 NBA Draft Lottery: In Depth Coverage of the Annual Pre-Draft Event

Matt WagnerMay 17, 2011

The 2011 NBA Draft lottery begins at 5:30 PM PT on ESPN and I will provide in-depth coverage of the event from who I believe will acquire the top pick to who will ultimately be selected with the number one pick when the actual draft comes around June 23.

Professional sports' drafts are usually unpredictable, however, the number one selection seems to be set in stone regularly in the buildup to the drafts. Regarding the 2011 NBA Draft, that is definitely not the case.

Opinions have been consistently fluctuating as to who will be the top selection and, as a result, there have been a plethora of prospects linked to the hallowed pick from consistent Arizona forward Derrick Williams to oft injured Duke point guard Kyrie Irving.

As far as the pick goes, I believe that Derrick Williams will become the 2011 number one pick based on his consistency on both ends of the floor.

As to who will make the official decision come NBA Draft day, the Minnesota Timberwolves and Cleveland Cavaliers possess the two worst records in the 2010-11 NBA season respectively.

History suggests that the two worst teams usually compete for the first selection, and I am convinced that history will repeat itself again this year. Although Minnesota received the dubious distinction of having the worst record, I believe that the Cleveland Cavaliers will receive the top selection, followed by Minnesota at number two overall.

The NBA Draft lottery officially sets the NBA Draft order every season, and be sure to tune in to ESPN tonight at 5:30 PM PT to discover the 2011 NBA Draft order.
