Alabama Football: 2012 Class Filling Up Fast, Big Linebacker Dillon Lee Commits

Larry BurtonMay 16, 2011

Larry Burton (Syndicated Writer) It's not unusual to see Nick Saban getting the very talented recruits to commit to Alabama, but what is getting surprising is the speed by which many of them are stepping up and committing.

Saban may only be able to sign perhaps 19 players for this next recruiting class, and he's already got 12 committed.

The 12th man signed on Monday was Dillon Lee, a big 6'4'', 250 pound linebacker from Buford High School in Buford, Georgia and Buford is home to the state's most winning high school program in decades going back to back to back state championships.

He was a heavy lean to FSU for a long time and has a brother playing for Georgia right now, but somehow, Saban was able to work his magic to get this four-star phenom to decide not just to commit to Alabama, but to do so this early.

And he got him to help finish out the recruiting class by helping Saban recruit more top talent to join him at the Capstone.

At his 5:30 p.m. press conference on Monday, nobody was sure where he would go.

Georgia was making a hard last push for him, and even though his brother was already on that team and his family have had Georgia season tickets for years, most felt it had come down to FSU and Alabama.

At first it seemed the relationship he built with Jimbo Fisher had won out, when after thanking his parents and his high school coaches for all that they had done, started thanking Jimbo Fisher for all that he had come to mean to mean to him as well as how much he had come to think of the Seminole program.

But then Dillon said he also wanted to thank Coach Saban and that he was second to none and that he felt Alabama was the right place for him and ended with a "Roll Tide."

This is a young man who has the talent to be a tight end, a defensive end or any position at linebacker, but Saban sees him as the prototypical middle linebacker, and that's the role that Dillon says he sees himself at, too.

Watch the video and you will see an athlete with quick feet who can bulldoze through a blocker to make a tackle behind the line of scrimmage and or drop into coverage and become not only pass defender, but an interception threat.

As you watch the video, remember that in these highlights, he was only a junior in high school. Can you imagine what the highlights from his senior year could look like?

Lee has already been a part of three straight state championships, and playing for championships was just one of the reasons he chose Alabama.

"I think I fit in well with their type of defense at Alabama." Dillon said at his press conference. He had also commented that he saw the potential of playing for championships for years to come.

This is the second linebacker committed for the 2012 class and may very well end the search for any more linebackers.
