FC Bayern Munich: The Final Weekend

Samrin HasibMay 13, 2011

If the Bayern website is anything to go by, Thomas Kraft and Hamit Altintop will be receiving a bouquet of flowers tomorrow.

Andreas Ottl's future is undecided, but he will perhaps be given a bouquet as well because he will perhaps not stay on with his childhood club.

This weekend, the fans finally don't have to worry about a Champions League berth. A berth in the qualifying rounds is already decided.

However, second place is within sights as Leverkusen is just three points ahead with an inferior goal difference.

Leverkusen always falls at the final hurdle and Jupp Heynckes might prefer to avoid the qualifying rounds next season of the Champions League. Bayern will play Stuttgart who secured a spot in next season's Bundesliga last week.

Bruno Labbadia will be returning to Bavaria without Cacau. Bayern will be without Breno who is injured. Franck Ribery is suspended. One goal in Munich could change everything.

Leverkusen needs at least a point against Freiburg to ensure second place. Freiburg coach, Robin Dutt, will coach Leverkusen next season and might prefer to go directly into the CL rather than play a qualifying round.

As Thomas Mueller put it, the news of an early goal in Munich could end up in an "attack of nerves" in Leverkusen.

Andries Jonker will coach the Bayern first team for the last time. In his brief stint, he has won three games and drawn one. Bayern has scored 18 goals in the process and conceded just once. He will coach the Bayern Reserves next season.

As far as transfer news is concerned, apparently, Benfica is resigned to losing Fabio Coentrao to Bayern for a fee of about €20 million.

The Manuel Neuer saga is seemingly over as Bayern and Schalke have finally agreed to put together a deal that benefits both sides. Neuer just has to agree to the terms to seal the deal.

This season has been a poor one overall. Bayern wants a second place finish, this statement says it all.

Next season should be better. However, this season did provide some good memories. Victories over Schalke, Leverkusen, Inter Milan, and St.Pauli will not be forgotten.

Last week's away victory against Pauli was Bayern's biggest ever away-win and Mario Gomez's hat-trick ensured that he will finish the season as the Bundesliga top scorer for the first time.

Finally, this is the final prediction of the season. Stuttgart has nothing to play for while Bayern does. So, I think Bayern will finish the season on a high.

Final Score: Bayern 2-1 Stuttgart.
