NBA Playoffs: If Miami Goes onto Win the NBA Finals, Will We See Co-Finals MVPs?
Before we get started: this is an entirely hypothetical article. I know full well that Miami still has eight more games to win against tough opponents.
But the thought of Miami boasting co-Finals MVP is too tantalizing not to discuss.
For the whole of the regular season, fans and reporters were arguing: Is it Dwyane Wade's or LeBron James' team?
In the regular season, statistically, you would have to give the nod to James. He scored at a higher rate, rebounded better and had more assists than his partner in crime.
But the playoffs have been an entirely different story.
Both players have nearly identical statistics, with very slim margins (in some instances 1 or 2) in total points, assists, blocks and steals.
To say who has been more valuable for Miami in these playoffs would be like splitting hairs.
Sure, LeBron has carried the team to victories in the past two games against the Celtics, but he had the opportunity to do so thanks to Wade carrying the slack in the first half.
Both have been efficient with the ball, and made Boston's seemingly unbeatable defense look easy to pick apart at times.
With all the discussion going around about whether it was Wade or LeBron's team, the amazing duo has quieted the critics with solid teamwork.
It may have taken them a while to adjust to not having the ball in their hands on nearly every possession, but Wade and LeBron are finally clicking, and at the right time for Miami.
It would certainly be a fairy-tale ending to a season filled of criticism.
One thing is for sure. If they keep this play up, there may well be two sets of hands hoisting the Bill Russell Most Valuable Player(s) trophy in the air come June.
