College Basketball: Texas A&M's Mark Turgeon Reportedly Offered Maryland Job
Just a few days following Gary Williams' retirement from his post at Maryland, Texas A&M coach Mark Turgeon has reportedly been offered the coaching gig with the Terrapins.
Turgeon has had an impressive four years with the Aggies, sporting a 97-40 record and taking the team to the NCAA tournament all four seasons. Before his stint in College Station, Turgeon went 128-90 with the Wichita State Shockers in the Missouri Valley Conference and led them to the Sweet 16 in the 2005-2006 season.
Maryland athletic director Kevin Anderson has been trying to lure top coaches such as Pitt's Jamie Dixon, Villanova's Jay Wright and Arizona's Sean Miller to the program since Williams' retirement.

The Terrapins had a fairly disappointing 2010-2011 campaign, going 19-14 and losing to Duke in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament on March 11.
Forward Jordan Williams was their best player, posting averages of 16.9 points, 11.8 rebounds and 1.4 blocks. He has since declared for the upcoming NBA draft and figures to be grabbed as soon as the first round.
The Terrapins did land guard Nick Faust of Baltimore City College High School, who is considered the 36th best prospect this year by ESPNU. It's clear though the bad taste from last season wore on Anderson, and he was looking for a big splash in the coaching ranks.
Turgeon can be that big splash.
He has a great record and led previously-underachieving Wichita State to a rousing run in 2005-2006. Although he may not be the guy Anderson had in mind first and foremost, Turgeon is still a reputable hire if he decides to ultimately accept the offer.
