EPL 2011: Arsene Can Learn from Alex Ferguson

Hasmat MustunMay 9, 2011

Manchester United beat Chelsea 2-1 at Old Trafford and are within a point of winning the title.

Alex Ferguson is close to making United the best team in England, as they look to clinch their 19th championship, overtaking Liverpool.

The Red Devils were convincing in their victory, especially in the first half after Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez scored after the first minute.

Van der Sar made a string of good saves to keep United in the game, and Vidic powered home a header to finish the game off, all in the first 45 minutes.

The three players mentioned have been instrumental for United this season, and Arsenal can learn from this. A good goalkeeper wins you games and Van der Sar has done this on several occasions this season. He will be missed next season, and Ferguson will scout the market himself for a world class replacement.

Vidic is a rock in the United defense. His body is always on the line, and he scores goals at the other end too.

Chicharito is the signing of the season. The little Mexican has been sensational, scoring 20 goals already in his first season. He scored with his head, left or right foot and works tirelessly for his team mates. When Hernandez plays, Rooney blossoms in his own role as playmaker.

And this brings me to the title of this article. Why can Arsene Wenger learn from Alex Ferguson?

Well Arsenal have been trying to mould a winning squad from a team of youngsters and develop them into word class players. A couple of season, the Gunners have been close but faded away at the last sprint.

What Arsene Wenger has tried to do in six years, I think Ferguson has done in two years. Ferguson has been well aware of his ageing squad. He brought in the two Brazilian, Fabio and Rafael, to play at right back. One of  them has already replaced Gary Neville who has retired.

Hernandez was brought in and he has moulded into the ideal box to box player. Ferguson has already branded him as his Gary Linekar.

But one thing for sure, Hernandez could be the new Van Nisteroy. He will be United's fox in the box for years to come—a position Arsenal are desperate to fill.

Johnny Evans and Chris Smalling have been given games this season, and look the part. They are both young and will be vital for United in the future.

Anderson is in and has not played as many games as I thought he would. I think he is ideal replacement for Paul Scholes. Ryan Giggs is instrumental and continues to impress despite his age, but he has been replaced by Valencia, who looks the part.

Ferguson could add Ashley Young to the squad if he wants one more assured player to replace Giggs.

But Ferguson's most vital weapon is Ji-Sung Park. Park plays in all the big games, he is a special player, with intelligent decision making and works hard for the team.

Arsenal have no special player who can come in and change games like United have. Arshavin has failed to live up to the expectation.

It is not about changing a whole squad with young players and waiting for them to understand each other, but it is about bringing in the right player at the right time.

Let them play with experience players; eventually, they will mold into good footballers.

Like Fabregas said recently, when Arsenal are down, there is no one to look up to around the pitch that can lift the players.

Ferguson also brought in Danny Wellbeck (academy), Gibson (academy) and made other signings, such as Frederico Macheda and Bebe.

The last two may well play at different clubs next season. Bebe may have been Ferguson's worse signing, and Owen has failed to sparkle.

Nevertheless, he has made better judgement on young players than Arsene Wenger.

Wenger only needs to add experience to his team for them to become a dominant force and compete with Manchester United.
