Terry Brown's AFC Wimbledon began their promotion playoff work against Fleetwood Town on Friday at the Highbury Stadium in Fleetwood, Lancashire.

While the Hatters of Luton Town have been tabbed by many to win promotion to the Football League Two, Terry Brown appreciates the fact that the pressure is essentially off his men.

"It is brilliant," Brown told the Elmbridge Guardian. "Wimbledon is all about being the underdog, it sits comfortably on our shoulders and we do not like to be the favourites for anything.

"If you look at the budgets of the other teams in the playoffs, we don't come close to them so, as far as that is concerned, we are the underdogs."

The Dons boss didn't believe that youth was going to be a disadvantage.

"We have by far the youngest and most inexperienced side as well," Brown said. "But I am a positive thinker and we have a really hungry team of young men who want to be professional footballers."

One player that has committed himself to Wimbledon for the long haul is Danny Kedwell.

"I've still got a year to run on my contract plus the option of another season after that," Kedwell told the Surrey Herald. "I would love to play in the Football League, but I'm happy here regardless of whether we go up or not.

"I love it at AFC Wimbledon. There's a great bunch of lads here and it's without doubt the happiest I've been in my career. If we don't get promoted we'll be in a great position next year because the squad is so strong and has another year's experience at this level under our belts."

Goals from Luke Moore in the 39th minute and Kaid Mohamed in the 49th minute paced the Dons to a 2-0 victory.

The victory set the stage for the second leg of the semifinal with the Cod Army, scheduled for Wednesday, May 11 at Kingsmeadow. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:45 p.m. ET.
