UEFA Champions League: Real Madrid vs. Barcelona Game Was a Joke

Pardon me for giving my opinion but this game was wretched. I don’t want to watch a team pass the ball around for 45 minutes of the game. I am sorry, I like excitement. Even if Pepe didn’t get the surprise start, Barcelona would have done the same thing most likely.

This game was on FX. I actually knew some people that were going to watch it because of all the hype they had heard about it. For years I have been defending the game in this country, but I couldn’t fault somebody for disliking the sport because I understand that it can be boring.

Today was a perfect example as to why I understand the hatred. Barcelona controlled the ball for virtually the entire first half. We rarely saw any action whatsoever. I prefer the game to be open and exciting. That is the type of game I tell my friends about when defending the sport. All we saw today was passing in the backfield, what a joke.

They did, however, do a good job of controlling the ball, taking the crowd of the game and frustrating/tiring the Real Madrid players. So maybe the soccer/football purist loves that but I can’t get into it. Of course, I still watched all 90 plus minutes of the game because I love soccer. So from a strategic stand point, Barcelona did what they had to do.

On top of all that was the constant diving, arguing and politics that went on with the game. After every single challenge, about half of the Barcelona team would charge to the referee and plead for a card. I thought the NBA was bad last year, but the display that this game showed today was classless.

This game was so boring, I would have been better off watching paint dry for two hours. Thank you Lionel Messi for showing off some skill and scoring a couple of world class goals.

I understand that the USA will never love the game as much as other countries, but after this display today I don’t blame them.
