2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs: Canadiens Force Game 7 on Bruins Undisciplined Play

Cory DuceyApr 27, 2011

When the Boston Bruins entered the Bell Centre for Game 6, they had a chance to finish the series and complete a comeback after being down 2-0.

Poor discipline was the order of the day for the Bruins as they allowed the Habs to have two 5-on-3 opportunities. That was the game-maker as the B's lost 2-1 to force a Game 7 at the Garden in Boston tonight.

Early in the game, Thomas misplayed a puck that sat just to the right of him. He had no idea it was open. Brian Gionta popped it in to what should have been a 1-0 lead but the referee lost sight of it as he was behind and to the far left of Thomas. The crowd was incensed...and I don't blame them.

Michael Cammalleri scored on the first 5-on-3 on a too many men bench penalty and Dennis Seidenberg's slashing call.

Early in the second period, Seidenberg redeemed himself with a wrap-around that beat Carey Price five-hole to tie it up.

The Bruins' lack of discipline reappeared as Milan Lucic was called for boarding Jaroslav Spacek to the glass and Patrice Bergeron's shot clearing the glass in his zone for a delay of game.

Gionta scored a greasy one in front of the net to put the game at 2-1 Habs.

Overall, the Bruins outplayed the Habs...when it was a 5-on-5. Even with one man down the B's had some shorthanded chances, but the Habs stuck to them and prevented much from happening.

If the Bruins want to continue to the next round, they will need to play with more discipline than this game or the next round into the playoffs will be a pipe dream.

This is a team you cannot—I repeat, cannot—go down on a two-man disadvantage. Montreal's power play is dangerous with the one-man advantage, but it is downright deadly on the two-man.

Going back home with the home-ice advantage, the Bruins can take solace that the only way that the Habs could score in Game 6 was on the 5-on-3.

Time to adjust and they don't have much time to do it.
