NBA Playoffs: San Antonio Spurs: Must Win Game Four at Memphis
The Spurs can’t afford to go down 3-1 against the eighth-seeded Grizzlies. They have to steal game four to take back home-court advantage or they will be in trouble.
Can the Spurs slow down Zach Randolph? I'm not sure they can, though they can attempt to contain him by contesting every shot possible. Forcing him to be a driver instead of a shooter will help significantly.
Marc Gasol and Randolph are destroying the Spurs in this series. The Spurs haven’t been able to find an answer for the Grizzlies big men.
The shooting for the Spurs has been awful, especially from three-point range. Credit can be given to the Grizzlies defense, but the Spurs must get easier and better quality shots. They are shooting 32 percent from beyond the arc compared to 40 percent in the regular season. Their field goal percentage is 42 percent compared to 48 percent in the regular season.
Manu Ginobili isn’t the same person he was in the regular season. He deserves credit for playing through the injury, but his arm is obviously nagging him. This isn’t the same team when he isn’t 100 percent.
The three-point shooters of the Spurs need to step up tonight. George Hill, Gary Neal and Matt Bonner have all shot 33 percent or lower in this series. Ginobili is only shooting 20 percent.
Hill shot 38 percent, Neal shot 42 percent and Bonner shot 46 percent on the season. These guys need to step it up from beyond the arc because Ginobili isn’t the same. Also, Tony Parker rarely shoots threes, therefore these guys need to spot up and hit shots after Parker penetrates the lane.
The Grizzlies have the Spurs backed into a must win corner with their backs against the wall. We see it all the time in sports, the most desperate team wants it more.
I think we will see one of the Spurs better games of the postseason tonight. If not, we might see the eighth seed defeat the first seed for only the fourth time since 1994.
