College Football 2011: Power Ranking the SEC Football Game-Day Atmospheres
College football is known for its multitude of traditions, legends and downright superstitions, but which member of the SEC has the best ones on a Saturday game day?
Could it be one of the numerous walks that are made from point A to the football stadium or the rowdy crowd of people that mingle throughout the morning and into the afternoon on luscious pieces of land on campus?
It also could be one of the not so nice cheers that come from the student sections pointed directly at the visiting team's sideline during the game when the home team is making a fool of the opposition.
With that said, let's see which Southeastern Conference team has the best game-day atmosphere during the fall.
12. Vanderbilt Commodores
1 of 12
Like many other programs in the SEC, the Commodores have the Star Walk that starts at the nearby McGugin Center as the Vanderbilt football team makes its way to the football field for a Saturday afternoon of college football in Nashville.
11. Kentucky Wildcats
2 of 12
Kentucky also shares the ceremonial pregame walk to the stadium with its fellow conference members, as Wildcat players will travel to Commonwealth Stadium on game day as a sea of blue surrounds them on the path to the stadium.
10. Florida Gators
3 of 12
While the Gator faithful is most well known for the gator chomp during a game day, Florida fans, during the the third quarter, will join together in the singing of the song "We're the Boys" that is coming up on its 100th year of existence.
9. Mississippi State Bulldogs
4 of 12
Unlike the Saturday Night Live skit from years ago, the Bulldog fans have plenty of cowbells ringing on game day, a tradition that dates back decades in Mississippi State history, as a cow wandered onto the field during a game and was kept on from then to the present day after the defeat of rival Ole Miss.
6. Arkansas Razorbacks
5 of 12
In probably the most recognizable phrase in college football, Arkansas fans will yell out "Woo Pig Sooie" to welcome the Razorback players. While no certain date has been assigned to this tradition, it is still fun to do for those fans in Fayetteville.
5. South Carolina Gamecocks
6 of 12
As one of the most popular entrances in all of college football, the Gamecocks' use of the theme to the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey will have the crowd of 80,000 on their feet as South Carolina emerges from the tunnel to the packed house at Williams-Brice Stadium.
4. Georgia Bulldogs
7 of 12
After a win for the Bulldogs on a Saturday afternoon, Georgia fans will then go to the Chapel on campus to ring the bell after the victory until the stroke of midnight, a tradition that dates back well before the turn of the 20th century.
8. Auburn Tigers
8 of 12
With the tradition starting in the early 1960s, Auburn has the "Tiger Walk," a trek made by the Tiger players that starts at the Auburn athletic complex and makes its way down Donahue Avenue on the way to the massive Jordan-Hare Stadium on game days.
3. Tennessee Volunteers
9 of 12
While notably the Washington Huskies are known for their tailgating outside Husky Stadium on Lake Washington, the Tennessee Volunteers are the only eastern college football program known for river tailgating, as the Vol Navy will set up shop on the banks of the Tennessee River on game days and partake of the atmosphere outside Neyland Stadium.
2. LSU Tigers
10 of 12
While there is no introduction needed for the intimidation factor of coming into Tiger Stadium at night, LSU enjoys one of the best home-field advantages in all of the SEC and college football for that matter, as the stadium is full of rowdy fans full of good Louisiana cooking from the day of pregame tailgating.
7. Alabama Crimson Tide
11 of 12
After a short time of being barred from being played by the Alabama band, the Rammer Jammer Cheer finds its roots in the early part of the 20th century from the school's student newspaper, where it is used today at the end of a game when victory is certain for the Crimson Tide.
1. Ole Miss Rebels
12 of 12
In the world of college football, there are not many places in the country that can top The Grove on the campus of Ole Miss, where fans will show up hours before a game, even as early as the morning of the game, to find a spot on the famous plot of land in Oxford.
