Jordan, Wilt, Durant and the 31 Greatest Individual Scoring Seasons Ever

Zachmo MarsupalamiApr 2, 2011

This is a list of the 31 highest amounts of total points ever scored by an individual player in the 65-year-old NBA.

In order for a player to score 2,460 points in a season he would have to average 30 PPG for an 82-game season, which is hard, rare and amazing.

Since Michael Jordan retired from Chicago in 1998, it has only happened thrice. Once by LeBron James, once by Kevin Durant and once by Kobe Bryant.

In this era of lax rules and gunners you'd think it would be more. Yet, one thing that is easy to notice on this list is that shooting more than 50 percent from the field is almost a necessity to score over 2,460 points; much less do it consistently.

Who are the most explosive scorers in NBA history? These guys:

2,400 points

No. 31 - 2009-10 Kevin Durant, OKC, 2,472 points.

No. 30 - 1965-66 Jerry West, LAL, 2,476 points.

No. 29 - 2005-06 LeBron James, Clev, 2,478 points.

No. 28 - 1963-64 Oscar Robertson, Cincinnati, 2,480 points.

No. 27 - 1995-96, Michael Jordan, Chicago, 2,491 points.

No. 26 - 1961-62, Walt Bellamy, Chicago Packers. 2,495 points.

2,500 points

No. 25 - 1981-82 Moses Malone, 2,520 points.

No. 24 - 1964-65 Wilt Chamberlain, 2,534 points.

No. 23 - 1960-61 Elgin Baylor, 2,538 points.

No. 22 - 1989-90 Karl Malone 2,540 points.

No. 21 - 1992-93 Michael Jordan 2,541 points.

No. 20 - 1981-82 George Gervin 2,551 points.

No. 19 - 1990-91 Michael Jordan 2,580 points.

No. 18 - 1979-80 George Gervin 2,585 points.

No. 17 - 1970-71 Kareem Abdul Jabbar 2,596 points.

2,600 points

No. 16 - 1988-89 Michael Jordan 2,633 points.

No. 15 - 1965-66 Wilt Chamberlain, 2,649 points.

2,700 points

No. 14 - 1959-60 Wilt Chamberlain 2,707 points.

No. 13 - 1962-63 Elgin Baylor, 2719 points.

No. 12 - 1972-73 Nate 'Tiny' Archibald 2,719 points.

No. 11 - 1989-90 Michael Jordan 2,753 points.

No. 10 - 1966-67 Rick Barry 2,775 points.

2,800 points

No. 9 - 1971-72 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar 2,822 points

No. 8  - 1974-75 Bob McAdoo 2,831 points

No. 7 - 2005-06 Kobe Bryant 2,832 points

No. 6 - 1987-88 Michael Jordan 2,868 points

2,900 points

No. 5 - 1963-64 Wilt Chamberlain 2,948 points

3,000 points

No. 4 - 1960-61 Wilt Chamberlain 3,033 points

No. 3 - 1986-87 Michael Jordan 3,041 points.

3,500 points

No. 2 - 1962-63 Wilt Chamberlain 3,586 points.

4,000 points

No. 1 - 1961-62 Wilt Chamberlain 4,029 points.

Michael Jordan and Wilt are on the list seven times each, but in the end, Michael Jordan holds the highest scoring average for PPG in an entire career!!! with 30.1!!!

Bryant is only on the list once.

LeBron and Durant are still possibly able to make the list twice, but they are on it once so far.

Consistency is key and that is why MJ and Wilt the greatest scores ever, and many of the others are one hit wonders!!! (Kobe, McAdoo, Archibald).
