MLS All-Stars Will Face Manchester United Again at the 2011 MLS All-Star Game
New York, NY - The MLS All-Star team will have an opportunity to avenge last year's horrific 5-2 loss to Manchester United. Earlier today, Major League Soccer announced that Manchester United will return to face the best of MLS in the 2011 MLS AT&T All-Star game.
Taking place at Red Bull Arena on Wednesday, July 27, this game will be broadcast live on ESPN2, Galavision and TSN (in Canada) starting at 8:30 p.m. ET. The 16th Annual All-Star game will mark the third time the game is hosted in the New York/New Jersey area.
“We are pleased to host Manchester United again for our marquee summer event,” MLS Commissioner Don Garber said. “Our All-Star Game has become a true celebration of soccer, and our best players look forward to the challenge of competing against one of the top clubs in the world.”

Many fans will have the opportunity to visit the 25,000 seat Red Bull Arena for the first time. For many, it the RBA is considere to be the best Soccer Specific Stadium in the country. Not only is the atmosphere fan friendly, it's also very accessible to get too if you're coming in from New York City.
“Since opening our doors last year, hundreds of thousands of fans have been able to enjoy some of the best soccer events at our stadium.” said Erik Soler, New York Red Bulls General Manager and Sporting Director.
“We are excited to welcome Manchester United and the MLS All Stars to this lineup of marquee matches. Manchester United is one of the world’s premier sports franchises and we expect that their arrival to Red Bull Arena will invigorate all soccer fans around the tri-state area.”
With a team like Manchester United, MLS fans may have the opportunity to see the likes of Wayne Rooney and Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez. Whether you support the Red Devils or not, they are considered one the best teams in the planet and to watch live is a rarity for many who live in the United States.
For the selected MLS All-Star team, this will be an opportunity for them to redeem themselves from last year's nonsensical 5-2 loss in Houston's Reliant Stadium where over 70,000 fans attended last year. Friendly match or not, Major League Soccer's progress will be evaluated and assessed by both the fans and media alike.
While Red Bull Arena may not be as large as last year's venue, the atmosphere and the intimate conditions will make it difficult for the team who the fans choose to condemn with their taunts and jeers. With this being the "Sweet 16th" season of Major League Soccer, this may possibly be one of it's most memorable All-Star game.
