Liverpool : Top 10 Liverpool Kits of the Premier League Era

Abhijit RajaMar 24, 2011

Football kits have always been an important part of any team's identity.

And so has been the case with Liverpool. Excluding the first four years of their existence, Liverpool have had a Red colored home kit—which has been the reason that they are also known as "The Reds".

However, along with the home kits, they have also had some very good away kits at their disposals.

In the Premier League era alone, the Reds have had the option to choose from over 25 different kits.

So, lets have a look at the top 10 Liverpool kits from the Premier League Era.

P.S.—The list is the author's opinion. The readers are encouraged to share their own views on the same as well.

10. 1992-93 Away

The away jersey in the 1992-93 season was popular with the fans due to its unique color and the lovely white stripes on the right shoulders.

It was just an improvement on the 1991-92 away jersey, with only the name of the shirt sponsor changing from Candy to Carlsberg.

Though, I would have to say that the jersey looks so much better with Carlsberg on it as compared to Candy.

9. 2006-07 Away

The 2006-07 away kit was not immediately liked by a number of Liverpool fans.

Though with time, the fans started to warm up to the bright yellow kit and though the kit is too bright, it does look smart on the players, as seen by the picture on the left.

This was the year in which Liverpool again continued its fine run in the Champions League, reaching the finals, eventually losing out to AC Milan.

8. 2001-02 Away

The 2001-02 away kit has been liked due to its very simple design.

A simple white kit with black stripes running down from the shoulders and black shorts to go along with it make it one of the top kits of all time.

This was the time when Liverpool again competed for the League title, and had a second placed finish in the league after a gap of 10 long years.

Another of the kits that was not immediately liked by he fans was the 2008-09 away kit.

The grey color with the red stripes make it a good kit to have, in hindsight.

The fondest memories associated with the kit are definitely the 4-1 thrashing of Manchester United at Old Trafford, in an year when Liverpool came so close to winning the title.

6. 2005-06 Away

Another simple white kit, another fan favorite. There seems to be something about simple white kits that the fans seem to like.

Add to that the red stripes running from the shoulders to the sleeves and on the sides, and we have a winner.

This was the year in which Liverpool was a part of the famous FA Cup final in which Liverpool made a great comeback from 2-0 down against West Ham, to eventually win on penalties.

5. 1995-96 Away

The 1995-96 Away kit is on the list due to its unique design.

Designed like a chessboard, with alternate green and white squarish design, it has been one of the most innovative designs to come out of the Liverpool stores.

Liverpool had begun their resurgence this season under Roy Evans with the Reds finishing 3rd in the league and losing in the FA Cup finals to Manchester United.

4. 2010-11 Away

The current away kit marked the return of the classical kit designs back into the footballing world.

The white color of the kit is perfectly complimented by the thin red stripes running down the jersey and the red stripes running from the shoulders to the sleeves.

Though, the season has not been the happiest one for the fans and the team, the team is on a resurgent path under the leadership of the old guard in Kenny Dalglish and the new owners, the Fenway Sports Group.

3. 1994-95 Home

No list of Liverpool kits could be complete without the famous Red kit of Liverpool.

The 1994-95 home kit was a perfect combination of Red and white. The thick white diagonal patches at either side on the bottom along with another white stripe running along the collar made it a great kit.

This was the first season of the Roy Evans era when Liverpool won their fifth league cup by defeating Bolton Wanderers in the finals.

2. 2009-10 Away

The 2009-10 away kit is widely believed to be one of the best Liverpool kits of all time.

It was a smart black kit with a yellow stripe running down from the shoulders to the sleeves. The Carlsberg logo in yellow as well as the Liverpool crest do look very impressive on the black background.

Though they had one of their better kits with them last year, they suffered one of their worst seasons in a long time, especially at a time when they were expected to make a bid for the title after narrowly losing out to United the year before.

The current home kit is certainly my favorite for a number of reasons.

Though I absolutely love Carlsberg for their support for a greater part of two decades, Standard Chartered for some reason seems to be better suited to the Liverpool jersey.

The red color of the kit also seems also seems to be the right shade to suit the players.

Though, the season has not gone to plan, all the fans do hope that the only direction for Liverpool to go from here is up.

Please share your views on the rankings and your personal favorites.

Keep the faith.
