FC Arsenal : Club for the Future or the One Holding on to Its Past?
Few weeks have gone by since FC Arsenal's Manager Arsene Wenger made a bold comment in the media about his desire to win all the four trophies they were competing for.Though technically correct, the comment was more of an over confident remark brought upon by the club's victory over the great Barcelona side, with some luck of course.Little did he know about what lied in store for him and his team form there onwards.
BIRMINGHAM,CARLING CUP FINAL, WEMBLEY STADIUM: Arsenal's best chance to win a trophy this season. Not many of the Arsenal players had seen a stage that big before. Lady luck was smiling once again, Birmingham should have had a penalty and Arsenal, a man down within the first few minutes. 1-1 being the score, a defensive disaster of epic proportions saw Arsenal gift the trophy to Birmingham and then the twitter updates followed. Why? Why on earth do those players display their anger on a public portal? Why does it not show in their game on the field? For once as a Barcelona supporter I thought they would be angry and dangerous when they arrive to Camp Nou.

BARCELONA, Second LEG CHAMPIONS LEAGUE TOP 16, EL CAMP NOU: Arsenal had arrived at Camp Nou in the best position they could. Barcelona is everything Arsenal want to be and Barcelona is everything Arsenal is not.Cesc Fabregas was back to the place he had always belonged, the place where he aspired to be and the place he should be.And for all those ideologies about the beautiful game, the pass and move. in the game of their lives, they decided to abandon it. They had lost the game even before it began. To that extent that the best passing team in English league could not string more than three passes in a row. They had their striker sent off BIG DEAL? He had three touches of the ball in 55 minutes, it was as if he wasn't there.Lets not make any mistake, for all their waste fullness in front of the goal, a good first touch from Bentdner and I would not be writing this article. Again, they chose to hide, this time behind the red card. And again twitter messages and articles started flowing blaming the referee. Refereeing was pathetic but for both sides. Why not direct that anger in the game? And we thought Manchester United game would be the one to change the tide.
MANCHESTER UNITED, FA CUP TOP 16, OLD TRAFFORD: And again, the same old. Looked like the team had already given up.
Three weeks and out of three trophies. Why does this happen, are they delusional, too scared to accept they are not good enough or have they lost the desire to win which seeing their trophy drought never existed in the first place. Only they can answer this but I think its time for Arsene Wenger to say good bye. Arsenal are not a team they were once, they are not even good enough to compete at the highest level in my opinion, they are just sore losers trying to look for scapegoats and trying to hold on to the past which is getting them no where.
